phantomFE3 Posted June 27, 2003 Report Posted June 27, 2003 i replaced the turn signal switch today, it took me about 3 and a half hours, but it could been shaved back a bit if i knew how to do some stuff before hand, so i will compile a list of could help you if you are replacing a turn signal switch. 1.) taking the steering wheel off is a 2-man job. put the nut on the threads of the steering column and do not tighten it all the way, just tighten it till it is flesh with the end of the rod you thread it on to. use a brass fill and a hammer to tap the end of the steering column while 1 person sits in the drivers seat of the car pulling on the steering wheel, it should take about 3 or 4 taps on the steering column. if there is a better way then i wish i woulda known about it. 2.) the 2 pin connector that connects into the ignition switch on the side of the column is a bitch to get at, unless you take the spring out. there is a spring right over top of it and you can see a small metal circle above it with a square hole in the top, insert a screw driver into the square hole and twist the plate counterclock wise, the spring should come out and you can get at the connecting pin. it coulda been shown better with pictures, but i didnt have the sense to take pictures while i was doing it, but hey i finished and everything works!!! all the turn signals, wipers, high/low beam switch works, i havent tried cruise control, but i dont plan on going on any long trips yet so i will test that later, im so excited!!! my left rear blinker didnt work, plus i would have to push the blinker knob down and pull back to get the blinkers to work, now i dont have to do that! now i just need to get my digital dash fixed... :? would it be easier to buy a new digital dash and just plug it in? or would i still need to solder some wires, where are the wires that i need to solder?!?! if you have any questions about how to replace the blinker switch i can tell you how i got it to work for me Quote
Robby1870 Posted June 27, 2003 Report Posted June 27, 2003 ya know.......they make steering wheel pullers so you can do it by yourself and not potentially mess your steering nut up. Anyway, glad you figured it out. Robby Quote
Baddflash Posted June 27, 2003 Report Posted June 27, 2003 You can actually create all kinds of problems beating on your steering column not a good idea. A puller's the only way, you can buy one for like $5-10. Good job getting it done though I still need to change mine, it's just like yours was. :x :x As far as the dash from what I've seen it's a common problem and tends to affect most of them. From what I've read there are two problems 1) Leaking capasitors on circuit board 2) Bad solder joints especially the 14-pin IC chip, I've heard that they might look fine but actually need resoldering. Look around the board I'm sure I've seen a couple posts and links to how-to's. Quote
