supreme_style21
In this 94 Olds, when the radio is using the receiver, I get the station I'm after, but I also get this rhythmic grinding sound from the speakers... it sounds just like when you knock the needle across a record. With the Kenwood deck I had in there, it was at an ignorable-level when the radio was turned up. I put my Alpine deck in there and now its just loud as hell... tough to get the radio to drown it out. When using the iPod or CD's in it, all is perfectly well. Any idea as to what is causing this??? The factory harness is.. factory.. it isn't chopped up. The car has six factory speakers. Besides the deck, the whole system is stock. There has never been any amps or subs hooked up in the car. The sound, from what I can tell, comes mainly from the speakers in the rear deck. 1990lumina
Try unplugging the antenna from the receiver and see if the noise goes away. It's possible the antenna is grounding to the chassis and picking up interfece

1990lumina
Does it have those wierd speakres in the back (two different leads running to each speaker)?? http://www.w-body.com/forum/index.php/topic,60628.60.html <-- In that thread (the last pg is relevant) Steve points out the issue with the DVC speakers and how to solve it (basically unplugging one of the leads)...sounds like it's a guess at which to unplug, but it's either one of the other. Hope that helps
GP1138
Edit: didn't read post as thoroughly as I thought.
1990lumina
Have you tried exchanging decks from another car at all? I'd imagine if it only happens when using the receiver, it wouldn't have anything to do with the speakers. He said it was happening with his Kenwood deck as well, just not as loud, FWIW. slick
Picking up noise- Check your ground and check both of your 12Volt leads. But, you say it only comes from the rear speakers? Has anything aftermarket ever been in the vehicle? The vehicle ever been apart?
jenniferpa
Mainly or only from the rear speakers? Because if it's only, this is almost exactly the problem (only mine sounds as if it was louder) I had when I installed my Alpine. I dealt with it by climbing into the trunk and unplugging the outer most leads on the rear speakers.

Yes it only comes from the rears IIRC> Yeah I have swapped numerous decks... it is really quiet, almost not noticible with the Kenwood deck, but it is present in every source.. You can easily turn the radio up and drown out the noise. With the Alpine in it, it is only grinding when it is set to radio, and its LOUD and drowns out the radio. Everything is factory, except for the radio. I have a few stock decks, but I can't get them to work in there. They're either LOCed or dead. Chris, where is it grounded to? The speakers and whatnot are factory.. the deck is aftermarket. The car has been wrecked.. it had a salvage title. It was hit in the front. Thats about the extent of "apart" as it would have been in its life as far as I can figure. Jennifer - I'll have to try that with unplugging those in the rear. I don't get the noise if I'm using the iPod or CD.. but when I turn it to radio, its horrid. In fact, you can't even hear the radio over it. supreme_style21
Yeah that did nothing. When I ran my iPod through the Alpine I had in there, it was perfect.. no noise. But CD and tuner, I got the noise. I don't get it.
