Lee
I had a miracle with my hesitation/accel trouble with the 95 Bonni N/A. Posted here for the 3.8 Regal guys. The car would hesitate and choke everytime I first took off after start up, cold or hot motor. It accellerated for sh*t; couldn't think of passing people. It got new plugs and wires, cleaned IAC, cold air intake, injector cleaners....nothing worked. Iwas going to do the fuel filter next, which I still will, but.... I cleaned the MAF sensor and Bam!!!! I got no more hesitation, great accelleration. Hard to believe that the amount of dirt under one thumb nail after working on a car motor could be the source of all that trouble. All that is in the thing, MAF, is two tiny wires with mini resister looking things, mounted between two posts. The tall set of posts was dirty, the short posts were spotless. I love it when miracles happen. I still haven't put the heater core in the REgal yet. It may stay a summer car
slick
MAF or Carb cleaner? EDIT: Looks like the Bonneville forum actually recommends rubbing alcohol. While the MAF is drying to clean out the TB. Anyways, I think they sell MAF safe cleaner, may be a bit easier than trying to clean it with rubbing alcohol and a q-tip. Lee
I actualy used an eye glass cleaner sheet; similar to the saniwipes you get at some restaurants. It smelled like alcohol. Didn't dawn on me that the type of cleaner could be a problem.
slick
Yep, the MAF is pretty sensitive.
no1kicker
I've had success using electrical parts cleaner, didn't have to take the screen off.
5speedz34
I'm surprised you didn't get a SES light. Those older 3800's go through alot of MAF sensors. They make MAF sensor cleaner. I got it at NAPA.
mfewtrail
Alcohol + q-tip works great for me, I've cleaned dozens of MAF's with no issues at all.
Andrew
yup whenever anyone mentions hesitation i always say to clean the MAF. cheap and easy. if you have a k&n, the oil sometimes finds its way on the sensor and messes it up too. MAF cleaner only imo, same price as carb/TB cleaner, and you can clean your TB with it too.
