ballistic
I am new to the board. I have been given a a 1995 grand prix. The problem is, I do not have the keys. I was working at a house that the bank foreclosed on and the car was sitting in the back yard. The bank told me they didn't want it and to have it removed. I called the local police department to see if it was stolen and they told me is was clean , but it hasn't had insurance for a number of years. The car has been sitting for while. I had to break the key ignition to get the steering wheel to unlock and get it loaded on my bobcat trailer. I replaced the ignition switch with one I bought from the auto parts store, but it does not have the resistor in the key to make the vats system recognize the key. I tried using the specific resistors with no response. I can turn the key to the start position and jump the starter contacts and get the motor to crank and sputter but will not start. Anyone know of of a way to get the car to start? I have filled out the paper work from the tag office to register the car as an abandoned vehicle title. But I want to make sure there is nothing major wrong with the car before I spend too much money on it.
GP1138
I'd call a dealership and ask them what documents you need to get a new key cut. It may not be the easiest way, but I'm not sure how otherwise. You could also go to a junkyard and get an IGN cylinder and key from the same model car. It sounds like he's already busted the original cylinder and replaced it. You'd have to bypass the "passkey" to get it to start.
19Cutlass94
Well if its been sitting that long, a tune up is in order. Call up the local dealer ( or stop by ) and have the VIN code on hand. Give them the VIN and have the make a key for that.
