EviLette Posted June 7, 2007 Report Posted June 7, 2007 Okay... so.. I found the place that sells the aircraft stripper and its finally warm enough that I can FINISH my wheel project... soo... Here's the BIG question. Once the stripper is ON the wheels, how long do you let it set, and how in the devil do you get it back off? Help! Quote
slick Posted June 7, 2007 Report Posted June 7, 2007 You can wipe it off or spray it off with a high pressure hose. Just don't get any on your skin. Let it sit until it stops bubbling. Could be 1 minute, could be 15. The longer you let it sit, the easier it is to get the old stuff off. Quote
mra32 Posted June 7, 2007 Report Posted June 7, 2007 Just don't get any on your skin. I am quite familiar with the burn of aircraft stripper. I may have already mentioned this in response to another one of your posts. IT EATS THROUGH LATEX GLOVES. Rubber gloves are fine though. Except the ones I used had some sort of black coating on the hand part. Quote
Q-Ball Posted June 8, 2007 Report Posted June 8, 2007 Anyone know where to get this in good old canada? I checked out CT online, but cant find anything. Quote
slick Posted June 8, 2007 Report Posted June 8, 2007 Check your auto parts store, thats what I find it. I think I have seen it at home depot as well. Quote
mra32 Posted June 8, 2007 Report Posted June 8, 2007 Do you have autozones there? Thats where I got mine. Quote
Q-Ball Posted June 9, 2007 Report Posted June 9, 2007 No Autozone's here. I'm going to check out Napa. Quote
CSI_MuNkY Posted June 9, 2007 Report Posted June 9, 2007 Jason, check out the Car Quest by the wreckers like I told you to! They carry a lot of different automotive paints, more so than a normal Car Quest. Jamie Quote
EviLette Posted June 9, 2007 Author Report Posted June 9, 2007 DAMN that shit is expensive... I went to our paint supplier to get it, because that was the only place I could find that carried it here... fourty freaking dollars for a GALLON. It damn well better be enough or I'm chiseling the rest of the paint off with my teeth before paying that much for more stripper lol. (I wouldn't pay that much for a stripper!) Quote

(I wouldn't pay that much for a stripper!) the spray can that I bought was only $5 or so IIRC....maybe it was a little more, but nothing significant to stand out in my mind Quote
AWeb80 Posted June 10, 2007 Report Posted June 10, 2007 i used 3 cans of aircraft stripper on my xlaces to get them clean.....and then my dads power washer w/ 200* water @ 2500 psi to get them totally clean... ...then had them pc'd gloss black and clear ontop of that. Quote
EviLette Posted June 10, 2007 Author Report Posted June 10, 2007 Yeah, well after the stripper there were some chunks still hanging around... not a whole lot though, I really gooey'd them up... and no gloves FTW cuz I'm cool like that lol... but i used a brush... that didn't melt too bad... lol I have pix of after stripper and pre-primer... I got my front two wheels primed yesterday and put back on the car, and then we had storms coming so I didn't get the back two done.... It is a bit hairy working on the wheels when they are your only set for your only car, lol. I'm gonna snap some quick shots of primered wheels a bit later... I haven't uploaded any of the pictures yet. After the aircraft stripper, I scrubbed for a minute, got pissed, and took them to the carwash.. but I was really wanting the hotsy pressure washer from work... 230 degree water oh HELL yea lol but I think I'm satisfied that they will come out alright... they wont be perfect, but I can always refinish them again once I have more time... and rims to roll on while the project is in motion. Because, let me tell you, running out of cigarettes when you are the only liscensed/insured driver in the place is a little bit hairy... especially when everyone else is outta smokes too, lol. And yeah, I know I should quit. Just haven't gotten around to it yet. Quote
