CSI_MuNkY Posted June 6, 2007 Report Posted June 6, 2007 OK... someone please tell my my brother is talking out his ass again. I was discussing my suspension plans with him the other day, when I told him I intend to drop the rear sub frame, complete with monoleaf, lateral links, hubs & struts, he told me that when I put it back in place I will have to get a subframe alignment, which is more costly than that of a regular alignment. I was asking Kyle (Bake82) about it cause he just pulled his, and he said it takes 4 bolts on the sub frame. But he couldn't recall any guide pins to make sure you are getting it in exactly the right spot when you put it back. Can anyone shed some light on this? Jamie Quote
slick Posted June 6, 2007 Report Posted June 6, 2007 Nope, you'll be fine. It's just like the front. They only fit in one position, and thats it. Quote
CSI_MuNkY Posted June 6, 2007 Author Report Posted June 6, 2007 Sweet! thats a releif, I had visions of my car on some sort of frame jig or something. That is something I hope to never see! Jamie Quote

GOT2B GM Posted June 6, 2007 Report Posted June 6, 2007 FWIW In regard to the front subframe, the subframe bolt diameter is not size for size with the retainer hole diameter. This means that there is a bit of play in the loaction of the subframe, that will affect your alignment. Every time (3 times) the subframe has been down on the Z34, the alignment has been a bit different upon reassembly. Quote
CSI_MuNkY Posted June 6, 2007 Author Report Posted June 6, 2007 Well the front subframe (as of right now) is staying in place, I don't think I have to lower it. I guess we will see come d-day Jamie Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted June 6, 2007 Report Posted June 6, 2007 You shouldnt have to lower the front subframe unless your changing front sway bars. Even then you only need to the lower the rear of the front subframe if that made any sense... Quote

CSI_MuNkY Posted June 6, 2007 Author Report Posted June 6, 2007 I'm only doing suspension work. That being said I already have the 34mm bar up front, so there is going to be no need to lower the front sub frame. My main concern is the rear subframe, I WILL be lowering this off the car and painting it up. Also have to lower it to get the new lateral links on. Its my understanding to change lateral links you either have to lower the sub frame or the gas tank. I don't want to touch the gas tank unless I absolutely have to. Jamie Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted June 6, 2007 Report Posted June 6, 2007 you should be able to get away with just lowering the subframe. Then when its off the car you can take the lateral links off. Quote
DOHCRagtopguy Posted June 6, 2007 Report Posted June 6, 2007 I think that it would be wise to get a 4-wheel alignment when you are finished. Just my opinion. Quote
CSI_MuNkY Posted June 6, 2007 Author Report Posted June 6, 2007 Yeah, I just figured once its lowered it might as well be off the car, so I'll pull it right off, hit it with the wire wheel and some POR15 I might even go over the entire bottom of the car with POR15, I'll just spray it down with my dads pressure washer and some Simple Green, wire wheel the worst areas, then paint it all. I'm allowing 1 week for myself, my father, my brother and a couple friends to get all the suspension work done 4 coil overs lateral links trailing arms rear sway bar PST front end kit (not poly, but I figure the rubber bushings are probably shot so replacing them with stockers would be an improvement) If I take longer than the 1 week, thats ok too, I have 3 weeks total to get it done, but getting it done in the first week would be nice. Then I can use the last 2 weeks of our plant shut down to relax. I'm doing all the work at my brothers new place, which just so happens to be right next door to NAPA, so if I need anything, its next door, lol. On top of that if I need any parts pressed in or out (like conrtol arm bushings) my brother can take them to the machine shop he used to work for, throw them a case of beer and have free use of the shop. Then its off to the alignment shop, cause I know I will need an alignment... I was just worried about this whole frame alignment my brother was talking about Jamie Quote
