synistershadows
ok so heres a few of the problems that i'v been told supposedly my trany is leaking fluid and i might have a major oil leak somewhere i dunno where but you can tell anyways the guy doing my oil change said that he noticed my engine runnig hot! i could tell i was there when i was getting the fuel system cleaning done and i just stood infront of the car and it was just pooring out heat when he was reving it anyways i was driving home and noticed that when i went to accellerate onto the highway i stepped on the gas and it reved up to bout 3500rpm and was stuck like the rev limiter was on it or sumthing and i couldent accrelerate past 65 KPH so i took my foot off the gas and had to take it down to 20 before it would acctully accelerate like normal. then when i was crusing down the road at 70kph it was giving a rough sound like it was straining to run but it also sounded like it was running at 500rpm which my car never does it sits at an idle of 1500rpm even when just sitting. anyways any help towards this so i can figure out whats wrong and what to do would be much appertiated oh and my check engine light stays on
Andrew
well lets start with the simple things first. what codes are you getting?
slick
Yeah, first pull those codes. The rough idle could be a number of things, same with the car running hot. About what temperature does it sit at on the temp guage?
synistershadows
k how do i pull the codes for one and my temp guage doesnt work just yet i just installed a UB3 and havent gotten the sender for the guage yet
slick
If your car is older than a 1994(even some 1994's can do this), follow the procedure here: http://www.w-body.com/ecm-codes.html. This is for OBD1 cars. If your car is obd1.5 or obd 2 equipped, take it to the parts store to be scanned, they will do it for free.
Psych0matt
if it's a 94 you shouldnt need a different sensor for the temp, only the oil pressure. I have a 94 and everything works fine except the oil pressure, and i didnt change anything out
synistershadows
i have a 92 so i think i need the sensors
synistershadows
so i took it out today and started it up and it sits at 2200Rpm but when i drop the car into drive or reverse the idle slows to bout 1000rpm but as soon as i get it back into neutral or park the idle goes back up? cutty
sounds to me like a vacuum leak somewhere.
DOHCRagtopguy
sounds to me like a vacuum leak somewhere. I agree. When you fire it up cold and it idles high, spray some Clean-R-Carb or similar product around the intake manifold ports. If your idle changes while doing this you found the leak. Have the intake gaskets ever been changed on it? The factory stockers suck, best ones to use are Fel-Pro. Hope this helps.

synistershadows
sounds to me like a vacuum leak somewhere. i just had a fuel system cleaning done and they had to take off one of the vacuum lines to do this could it be possible that this could be the problem??? slick
Yes, most likely.
synistershadows
so i think i got everything fixed i hope!! i needed new intake gaskets so i wen tand picked thoes up and everything seems to be running smoothly now the idle went downmy weird acelleration went back to normal ( i would be able to get up to 60 km/h without stepping on the gas before) but when me and my buddy did the job there were alot of antifreeze hoses taken off and a fair amount of antifreeze lost we put a little more in when we finished but when i took it out to test as soon as i slowed down it started smoking out of my engine bay and i noticed the engine was running hot so i shut it down and let it cool for a lil bit the started it up and took it back to my buddies. got there and it was smoking again but not as bad. he said it was most likly just the antifreeze we lost burning up on the engine but im thinking we might have missed a hose but we doublechecked everything and it seemed alright. could this juat be us not have putting in enough antifreeze after that would have caused the engine to heat up like that? Andrew
you probably got air in there, thats why it ran hot. whenever i remove the lower manifold for maintenance, after reinstall i pour coolant/water thru the t-stat hole til the manifold is almost full. And i agree with your buddy that you were prolly burning the coolant off the engine. next time rinse the area off with a hose and this wont be an issue. kuwaitliberation
you probably got air in there, thats why it ran hot. To explain the reason behind the air causing the heat. Air acts as an insulator between the coolant and the water jackets. It causes a build up of heat, really quick. Boiling of the coolant causes the same problem with the air insulator. That is why a cooling system is pressurized to prevent boiling.
synistershadows
so what should i do just let the air run out ???
slick
Open the bleeder valve, then turn the engine on, and let it get hot. Turn your air on max heat to get the heater core flowing also. Once you see a constant stream of just coolant, close the bleeder vavle, and your done.
