mdelorie Posted June 3, 2007 Report Posted June 3, 2007 I seem to recall that back in the day, these bars encountered some clearance problems, and they'd rub on various components. Has this been resolved? Quote
CSI_MuNkY Posted June 3, 2007 Report Posted June 3, 2007 Apparently Addco release a revised bar, thats what it was listed as when Q-ball bought his. I'm looking into a sway bar made by a different company, gonna be a risk taker and prey there are no clearance issues with it. Jamie Quote
CSI_MuNkY Posted June 3, 2007 Report Posted June 3, 2007 I'll likely be ordering the bar this week, but it won't be going onto the car untill the week of July 18th or so. I've got a LOT of suspension work I'm doing, I'll basically have everything to do with suspension ripped off the car, some will be cleaned up to go back on, some will be thrown into a FS thread, some will find their way to a metal scrap yard. Providing I don't run into any major problems, all the work should be done by July 22nd Jamie Quote
Q-Ball Posted June 5, 2007 Report Posted June 5, 2007 sweet a day before my birthday! I dont want your trash for my birthday either... unless its the front assemblies Quote
CSI_MuNkY Posted June 5, 2007 Report Posted June 5, 2007 Bar is ordered, and unlike with ADDCO, they have one in stock, so its on its way to my door, non of the waiting 6 to 8 weeks like Jason had to. The new bar is a regularly stocked item through the company I'm buying from. Jamie Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted June 5, 2007 Report Posted June 5, 2007 I wish it was like that when I ordered mine! I waited almost 2 months to get it! from Cali! Quote
xtremerevolution Posted June 5, 2007 Report Posted June 5, 2007 I wish it was like that when I ordered mine! I waited almost 2 months to get it! from Cali! I ordered my Addco #474 bar from SummitRacing.com and it arrived in a week. I really can't complain about their service. However, i did have problems with rubbing, which I'm in the process of getting fixed. The the bar is pressed against the strut and when it rotates, it rubs against the whole strut and makes a really annoying grinding noise. All you really need to do to fix that though is get some aluminum or steel plates to space out the bushing and bracket farther out from the strut so it doesn't rub against it. Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted June 5, 2007 Report Posted June 5, 2007 I take it you got the revision 1 bar? Thats what I have. It doesnt rub the struts for me, it rubbed the inner fender wells. But thats now taken care of Quote
CSI_MuNkY Posted June 5, 2007 Report Posted June 5, 2007 What did you do to take care of the rubbing? going with a bar no one on here has used, who knows what I could end up with. Jamie Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted June 5, 2007 Report Posted June 5, 2007 I had to cut away part of the inner fender wells, then I used an air hammer to push in the rest. Worked pretty good and now have 1/2" clearance between the bar and fender well on each side. Quote
xtremerevolution Posted June 5, 2007 Report Posted June 5, 2007 What did you do to take care of the rubbing? going with a bar no one on here has used, who knows what I could end up with. Jamie All you need is a few plates of metal about the size of the bracket to put between the bracket and the strut so it by default sticks away from the strut a little bit. You can get aluminum bars for like $4, and if you have a hacksaw and a drill, you're set. Just for the record though, the leaf spring's body roll reduction combined with the sway bar makes the car handle extremely well in hard turns. I was very impressed with the difference it made once I put it on, coming from no sway bar at all. Quote

Well my monoleaf will be saying bye bye in a few weeks here, I have 4 coil overs on order for the car Jamie Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted June 5, 2007 Report Posted June 5, 2007 Let me know how the front works out with the coilovers cause I want to get coilovers in the front for mine. Quote

Oh don't you worry, I'm probably going to start a thread once parts start hitting my door step. I will keep everyone up to date with the build. EVERYTHING suspension is coming off the car to get replaced or just cleaned up. Jamie Quote
mdelorie Posted August 15, 2007 Author Report Posted August 15, 2007 So, between this thread and GTP_MuNkY's suspension thread, I think we can draw a conclusion that clearance issues still remain for these bars. Agreed? I'm not really interested unless it's a complete bolt-on with no further modifications required. Quote
CSI_MuNkY Posted August 16, 2007 Report Posted August 16, 2007 The bar I got under the G-max name was just a relabeled Addco Revision 1 bar. Jason (Q-ball) has a revision 2 bar that should resolve clearance issues. Different being I paid over $100 LESS than he did for his. If you follow the directions in my thread for making the spacers you shouldn't have any binding. Jamie Quote
Q-Ball Posted August 16, 2007 Report Posted August 16, 2007 I pay for goodness! And engineering purposes. AKA REV 2! Quote
CSI_MuNkY Posted August 16, 2007 Report Posted August 16, 2007 I pay for goodness! And engineering purposes. AKA REV 2! I saved money by taking an extra hour to make spacers Jamie Quote
mdelorie Posted August 17, 2007 Author Report Posted August 17, 2007 I'm definitely inclined to go for the rev 2 bar. Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted August 18, 2007 Report Posted August 18, 2007 Ive got the revision 1 bar, and I really dont see where the problem is. I didntfab up brackets like aweb and GTPmunky did, and the only rubbing I had was the inner fender well. Its not that big of a deal to cut out a 1"x2" piece... Quote
pwmin Posted August 18, 2007 Report Posted August 18, 2007 my gen 1 rubbed on the back of the rear subframe right where the lateral links bolt to it in my 96. it was lowered about 3" though. after the gen 2 bar, i didnt have any problems except for the bar sliding and the occasional rub on the inner fender, which can be cut enough safely so its not an issue. i have the gen 1 on the 91 now, so ill see what happens once i get my coilover parts for the rear. shouldnt be lowered as much as the 96 being that it has an mtx, so i hope it doesnt rub. when redz had the gen 1 on his lumina, it never rubbed. it had st springs up front and factory lowering in the rear Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted August 18, 2007 Report Posted August 18, 2007 cause my car as roughly 2"-3" drop and the only issue I had with it was the inner fender well. But for some reason ever time I read that someone got the bar they have rubbing issues there.... Quote
Mach 5 Posted August 19, 2007 Report Posted August 19, 2007 I had to revise my bars center brackets (Addco- Black Powdercoating) only so it didn't hit my exhaust. The only thing it rubs on now are the coilovers- shock part- but a little grease makes the sound go away. Jarek Quote
