Phaedrus
Hey guys, My new to me '94 Grand Prix GTP needs tie rod ends and rear trailing arms really bad. The tie rod ends are all sloppy and the dust covers are gone, and the trailing arms out back are 1/2 way rusted through. At http://www.partsandaccessories.com I can get Mevotech brand rod ends for $14 each and the trailing arms for $20 each. The Moog parts are x to 3X as expensive. Has anyone used Mevotech? I'd like to do this on the cheap...Thanks!
19Cutlass94
Id get the GMPP trailing arms. Tubular and only like 10 bucks more. As far as tie rod ends go, make sure that they are greasable. They will last/perform much better.
mdelorie
BMR makes trailing arms as well; with greasable poly bushings. They're pricy though.
19Cutlass94
Not only are they pricey, but you loose wheel space. Which is very important if your going with a wider tire/rim.
pwmin
those trailing arms actually look better than i expected.
Phaedrus
Where to buy the GMPP trailing arms? This is my commuter car, so I don't really need any high performance parts. I'm sure ANYTHING will be better than the 1/2 rusted through stockers.
19Cutlass94
http://www.gmpartsdirect.com you wont have to worry about them rusting like the U-channel ones do.
pwmin
i have a set of good used stockers i would sell for cheap. came off an original CO car, so theres just a little surface rust.
mdelorie
Not only are they pricey, but you loose wheel space. Which is very important if your going with a wider tire/rim. How would you lose wheel space? They tubes are no wider than the GMPP trailing arms. Primary difference is in the the fact that they have greasable poly bushings. mdelorie
http://www.bmrfabrication.com/controlarms/GPtrailingarm.jpg Not to get too far off topic... but there's only about 8 to 10 mm of difference between the stock u-steel and the BMR ones. Anyways, if you're looking for cheap... BMR's not the way to go. But buying a set of stock replacements, when the GMPP arms are so cheap, isn't a very wise move. CSI_MuNkY
You could even go with Held, they make the Trailing arms and lateral links. I've already placed my order for all 3! Jamie
CSI_MuNkY
Just did some price comparing The BMR trailing arms are $129, The held ones are non-greaseable poly urathane but are the same price. The BMR lateral links are $209 per set (you need 2) The held ones are $130 and like the trailing arms are non-greasable poly urathane. To get a Kit with all the BMR arms, $499.95! I'm paying $350 for my helds. So what if they aren't greaseable, guess I'll have to do that the hard way, worth the difference in price for me. Originally I was just going to upgrade my trailing arms, but then I decided to hell with it and ordered all 3 sets of rear arms along with coil overs for all 4 corners. mdelorie
I've got the BMR lateral arms. I didn't get the trailing arms because I already have a set of GMPP arms. I'm working on a post detailing the whole project (which I just finished yesterday).
19Cutlass94
BMR trailing arms are atleast 3x bigger than the GMPP trailing arms. They are huge and over built IMHO but theres nothing wrong with that
