torquesteer
Hello everyone, I'm new to this forum and I am looking for some help. I have a '95 GTP with engine problems. When the engine is cool it idles as is common for that engine (3.4DOHC) and accelerates okay but not with the same power that it had in the past. Upon reaching operating temperatures there are noticeable changes for the worse. The idle remains intact but as soon as I accelerate and a load is put on the engine, its starts to stumble and significant power is lost. Revved it up in park at op.temp and engine stumbles also. Once I have reached a cruising speed however, engine runs with a steady tachometer. What I have done so far: changed the fuel filter, plugs, check for vacuum leaks and found none, and changed the cam sensor. It sounds like there is a misfire/backfire or a cylinder is not firing but I do not know for sure. I don't know what is causing this problem. If anyone has an idea to what the problem is or has any other troubleshooting tips I would be grateful. Thanks, Andy
GOT2B GM
have you replaced the oxygen sensor yet?
19Cutlass94
When the car is running, does it smell like raw fuel out the tailpipe? Did you check the coils and ICM? If its a missfire, the engine/car will vibrate and it will only get worse as RPM increases.
torquesteer
I have not yet changed the oxygen sensor. I only felt behind the tail pipe to feel for any pulses of exhaust but the exhaust exited smoothly. I did not pay attention to the smells coming from the exhaust until now. The engine does have a noticeable vibration and the vibrations correspond to the engine RPMs.
rockfangd
Check the plug wires and use boot protector with a new set of wires
