Pabz Posted June 25, 2003 Report Posted June 25, 2003 So i almost have the l67 with tranny, and wiring harness, etc. I would like to know if i could take the strut towers out also and replace them with the one from the doner car? will they bolt right in from 98 GTP? Also if use the stock downpipe on the doner, i should be able to use the stock ehaust also right, will it need new hangers to hold up the dual exhaust. Do the GTP's come stock with the 255 fuel pump, i am trying to get as much as possible from the donor car, front clip minus hood and fenders would be sweet. The strut towers are most important cause then i can get the upgraded rotors and calipers, and might be better to find some aftermarket wheels. I am gonna take alot of photos, large ones, of every detail, even wiring. But if i get lazy maybe i can get brian teel to do it, but i am good with wiring and tracing. BadFlash, have any progress with your future swap??? that would be sweet maybe we could take both our cars to budweiser park and see how they do The 2.8 has some valves knocking in the rear of the engine, what do you think would be good to do with the engine (2.8) after i take it out? GnatGoSplat Posted June 25, 2003 Report Posted June 25, 2003 1. No, they will not bolt in. 100% completely different design. Zero similarities. 2. No, the exhaust will not work. You can use the downpipe, but it will have to be cut and welded to your existing exhaust. 3. 97+ fuel pump is in a module. You will need a new fuel pump. 4. Brakes/calipers etc. completely different design. Won't work. Quote
Baddflash Posted June 25, 2003 Report Posted June 25, 2003 Too bad a lot of parts will not swap between 1st and 2nd gen w-bodys. As far as my L67 swap it's sort of back burner for now as I need to finish the paint now that the bodys all done and I want to do the 5-spd swap first. Not to mention the new suspension my car badly needs. Need more$$$$$$ Good luck with swap. Let me know when you start I'd love to come check it out. Quote
GnatGoSplat Posted June 25, 2003 Report Posted June 25, 2003 Basically nothing will swap except engine and tranny. Even though L67 core support brackets (for the torque strut mounts) can be modified to work, they are not ideal. Ideally you should use 3100 core support brackets. Quote
Pabz Posted June 25, 2003 Author Report Posted June 25, 2003 Do you highly suggest i get the core support brackets from a 3100 also if i get the engine and tranny with the subframe, will it bolt up corectly, or should i use the existing cradle (subframe), if i use the newer one with newer bushings, will my strut towers bolt up also?? Dunebuggy or, if you want to go REALLY REALLY REALLY fast, a go-kart  maybe I'll get a cheapie DOHC or 3.1 and slap it in a go-kart 150 - 215HP in an approx. 600 - 700 lb vehicle. .....splat 8) Quote

I personally would get the core support brackets from a 3100... and it has to be a gen 1 W-body. It just makes for a cleaner install. I know a few people have taken the GTP brackets and cut off the bottom mounts so that they're attached by only 2 bolts each, but to me that's pretty ghetto. Just my opinion though, some people don't mind ghetto. You will need to use your existing subframe. The gen 2 subframe won't bolt up. It's completely different. Quote

Pabz Posted June 26, 2003 Author Report Posted June 26, 2003 For the subframe, could i find new bushings to make it more solid, what you think, will the old bushings and frame need any new parts to help it handle the increased power of the l67 So basically the only things i need and can use from the donor car is the parts listed on the L67swap.com 3800 series supercharged motor (L67) 4T-65E HD transmission complete wiring harness PCM Stock Downpipe cruise control if you want it axles from the new motor newer high pressure power steering line new PCM tray And buy the following Walbro High Presure fuel pump (255) Where could i get the fuel pump from, any part #? You can get new subframe bushings from GM, they do sell them. I don't know if you'll need them, but it couldn't hurt and could only help. I got a 255lph Walbro for $93 I think, from Advanced Performance Engineering or something like that. They have a website, but I forget the URL. It's the SyTy site and I think he might only sell fuel pumps. There's a company with a similar name that sells nitrous stuff, that's not the one. Quote
Pabz Posted June 26, 2003 Author Report Posted June 26, 2003 Shawn, do you have any of the helm wiring diagrams, for the 89 cutlass, brian is gonna see if he can do some helpful things for tracing the wiring. Thanks Quote
GnatGoSplat Posted June 26, 2003 Report Posted June 26, 2003 I have them in my service manual, but it would take too much time to scan and upload them via dialup. I can probalby get Mitchell schematics real quick, but it won't tell connector names or wire gauge. I'd just recommend picking up a Helms from Ebay, I've seen 'em as cheap as $10. Quote
Pabz Posted June 26, 2003 Author Report Posted June 26, 2003 Ok anything would help, i'll keep an eye out for the helms manual on ebay, drop me a line if you see one, what does the manual look like?? Quote
GnatGoSplat Posted June 26, 2003 Report Posted June 26, 2003 It looks like this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=34230&item=2420612063 and this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6032&item=2420858217 Quote
Pabz Posted June 26, 2003 Author Report Posted June 26, 2003 Should i pick one of those up, thanks for finding them for me!! Damn your awesome, are those the Helms ones??? Shawn will you be able to gimmie lots of imput on this swap? Quote
GnatGoSplat Posted June 26, 2003 Report Posted June 26, 2003 Yep, those are Helms. I would pick one up... I paid $60 for mine. Sure, I can offer some input, but I've never done the swap myself. I've only done a lot of research in the past and that's pretty much it. Quote
