95 BLKDOUT Drop Top Posted May 29, 2007 Report Share Posted May 29, 2007 ok 95 cs 3100, start it from cold and start drivin and the temp guage gradually goes all the way up and stops right before the red area. The car has never actually over heated tho it just gets hot, fans blowin full blast. what the hell is goin on. i didnt think it was the t-stat because the heat never got hot over the winter (when i did drive it during winter months) but during the summer its nice. if the t-stat was bad i would never have any heat. cutlass1991 Posted May 29, 2007 Report Share Posted May 29, 2007 is this during normal stop-and-go low speed driving, or highway driving? My 97 CS 3100 runs pretty hot. Sitting in traffic on an 70ºF day, the temp gauge will go all the way up to just before the red zone before the fans kick on. From what I've read on this forum, this is pretty normal for the 3100. there could be air in the coolant system that is causing it to heat up faster than normal....you could try bleeding it. cutlass1991 Posted May 29, 2007 Report Share Posted May 29, 2007 well, if your t-stat is stuck closed, I think you would still have heat in the winter...but because coolant wouldn't be flowing through your radiator, the engine will heat up much faster than normal... I would check stuff in the following order: 1. open the bleeder screws while the engine is running and warmed up.. make sure coolant is squirting out in a steady stream. If there is bubbles, then there is air in the system. 2. If there's no air in the system, then try replacing your t-stat. 3. If that doesn't solve the problem, it could be that your water pump is on its way out. It may be pumping just enough fluid to prevent overheating, but not enough to keep the engine any cooler... sometimes you can tell if the pump is making a noise... kind of like a high pitched whine. 95 BLKDOUT Drop Top Posted May 29, 2007 Author Report Share Posted May 29, 2007 well if it was the water pump wouldnt it automatically shoot to hot? my car will gradually move towards the hot area, sometimes itll go back down to just above normal. and sometimes itll rest at just above normal then after a while move towards hot. Its freaky because ive never had this problem in any other car... and ive had my fair share of old cars. on the freeway its the same thing only it wont get as hot. And if my water pump is goin wouldnt it have overheated sometime at all? I mean this thing has NEVER actually overheated and boiled over since ive owned the car. my old pontiac 6000 STE 3.1 would over heat before the gauge even reached the red area.
