282 gearing

has anyone gotten either a custom fifth gear made to get more top end out of the motor, or a numericlly lower final gear for a 282?

There aren't many options, but the Fiero 282 has a lower 5th & final drive than the W-body version. You might be able to use one of those instead, or transplant some gears from the newer Getrags of the mid-90's.

i think thats the page that got me on the idea of a higher fifth gear.

 

they didn't seem to have many ways to get higher gears except for custom cut hardware, but a .72 5th gear from a fiero might work for what i'm doing.
