ok so i just called CT to get a new filter for my transmission, it's a 1991 LuminaZ34 with the 4t0e6 automatic transmission and the guy told me that there are two in them. he told me they are $15.59 each. now does that make sense? i though there was only 1 filter in there.

Umm, there is only one in there I'm like 99% sure. I know the 4t60 and the "e" are similar..so I'm sayin' theres only one filter. God only knows what the guy was looking up. Go to Napa or somewhere that knows wtf they are talking about

You have the 4T60-E. All 3.4's got that (except for '97?), there is only 1 filter, might be the same as the 4T60.

x2. on going to NAPA.

yup went to napa and got it, took everything apart and cleanned it all up with brakekleen, re-used the stock gasket. was a nice quick job other then the 24 bolts to take out and put back in, lol

but that fluid was aweful, it had never been changed since 1991 ffs! what a difference it made too, the shifting is much better and alot thighter.

that magnet couldn't have worked too good cuz it was coated in this black sludge shit. i was amazed the tranny still worked.

but all said and done.... works much better now.

There should be some shavings. That's showing the transmissions is doing its job.

If you can open the filter up and take a look inside I would do that too.

Honestly, I wouldn't worry about your transmission unless there are chunks of metal in the pan, filter, or magnet.

ya it was workimg good before so that is why i wasn't too worried about it, but decided to replace it anyway, and i just found it made a big difference.there were a few junkies that plopped into the bucket when i drainned it but nothing too major i guess.

So did chunks come out?

ya there were chunks that came out of the bottom of the pan when i dumped it into the bucket. i had drained 90% of the fluid before dropping the pan, so it was only a litle fluid and some chunks when i took the pan off completely and dumped the remainder of the fluid out.

i will open up the old filter when i get home in the morning too and see what is inside it, i know it weighted about 2lbs more then the new one i put in.

they weren't metal chunks they were like hard gobs of sludge,i was able to squish them in my hand, and it was smooth, not gritty. i think the guy who owned the car before me used "gunk" tranny liquid sealant and this was the outcome of it.
