Slade901
Is this a digital cluster? They might have replaced that digital cluster with another one which does not have the KM option. Just push the KM/Miles button to the lower right and it should give you the Mileage instead of the Error.
89Cutlass
yea its digital no it has the miles/km option and that works fine i also might need to mention that the speedometer is about 20mph to high. like it will say 70 when im only going 50. Slade901
Is the odometer always shows up Error? I'm just making sure that your Speedometer reads MPH and not KPH. The KPH is always higher than MPH. Edit: Do you see a button on the lower left of the Digital Cluster? I think thats the one that changes to Metric and English (hence MPH and KPH). supreme_style21
My manual says it will also read 'ERROR' if someone has tried tampering with it or setting it back.
nerfbars
If it is the base cluster that only has the fuel, speed, and odometer gauges then when the car hits 199,999 miles it cant go to 200,000 miles because the first digit is fixed at 1. I found that out in my car the hard way. It just read error when it went to hit 200,000 miles. I have since upgraded to the deluxe digital dash and that works fine over 200,000 miles. 89Cutlass
I think your right about the 200,000miles so i guess ill upgrade to the new dash. but will it still have the miles stored ????

When the Odometer reached 200,000 miles, did the Trip Odometer still worked if you switched from Odometer to Trip Odometer reading?
89Cutlass
When I got the car it said error its always said that for the last 2 years ive had it
nerfbars
My odometer worked fine. The milage is stored in the dash itself. So whatever milage is on your new dash that is what it will read.
89oldscutlass
I have a 89 SL with the base cluster and it does the same thing with the error reading and the speedometer is of by a million miles.I was told to check my ECM to see if it had been replaced so I checked it and it had been replaced with a refurbished one.I was told that i would have to get the right one for my car in order to get the cluster to work properly.I tried taking my ECM off the 89SL and put it on my plain 89cutlass supreme to see if it would work right on it and it had the same effect on the plain 89.So check to see if you have the ECM that came on your car and if its been replaced that might be your problem.Shawn would be the one to ask. 89Cutlass
Actually i am almost certain the guy i bought it off of told me he had put a new computer in the car. So I guess theres no hope for it im use to taking 20mph off the speed and calculating it while im driving anyways.
