89Cutlass Posted June 23, 2003 Report Posted June 23, 2003 I have a 1989 Olds Cutlass Supreme 2door coupe 2.8L I just changed the O2 sensor thats on the rear exhaust manifold but i noticed another wire with the same connection going into the driver side kinda near the back driver side corner of the exhaust manifold looks like an O2 sensor, Is it ? GPdriver1986 Posted June 23, 2003 Report Posted June 23, 2003 I'm positive that your car only has one O2 sensor. I think that the thing that looks like on O2 sensor that is connected to the exhaust manifold has something to do with the EGR system. Quote
89Cutlass Posted June 23, 2003 Author Report Posted June 23, 2003 Yea your prolly right its actuall right under the egr now that i think about it. Thanks for the info. Quote

Yeah, one O2, and the other you are referring to, is the EGR pipe. Does your car idle a lot better now, with new O2. Mine did, of course I did a lot of other stuff, Im just curious as to if it helped that much Robby Quote
89Cutlass Posted June 23, 2003 Author Report Posted June 23, 2003 Yes its a little better, everything i do pretty much makes it a little bit better, should i reset the comp with the new O2 sensor installed or just let it be? Quote
89Cutlass Posted June 23, 2003 Author Report Posted June 23, 2003 Hey Robby the guy that changed my cat told me that the old one since it was all clogged and broken up inside pieces of it could still be in the exhaust system. this could effect the cars performance and its idle couldnt it Quote

Plus, I really dont think they could get into your motor. And, I think a good flooring of the accelerator would blow out any pieces still left in the pipes!! But your right, it could possibly hurt performance. I dont think resetting the ECM is necessary. It will be gettin a better signal from the O2, which helps in fuel delivery, which is why it idles better. So, its already compensated for it. Robby Quote
