Nick1234
why can't they use this same technology with the 3.6. If a 3.4 in the early 90s was supposed to be rated at that amount of power, then the 3.6 should be an easy 300hp. Although maybe they can and will. Something great to compete with the nissan vq35de. Come to think of it, the 3.6 is doing fairly well. Powered the aura down the track in 14.5 seconds. But they also put it in the gmc arcadia which wasn't enough get up and go for that size of a suv. I want to drive a 3.9. I hear it doesn't feel like 240 hp.
5speedz34
The 3.4 DID originally make 275hp, but it had to be detuned because the transmission guys are GM couldnt build an AT strong enough to support it. the 284 could handle it though, and i really wish they would have made the 275hp version an option with the 5-speed. there will not be a gen IV. sorry. See I always thought this was an urban legend? Maybe a prototype, but I don't think it was in production form. GM had the engine ready for production. The trans guys couldn't meet the deadline, so they had to change it up real quick, and mike minor alterations to a transmission already in use. Have you read any of the stuff over at 60. I really don't believe the 275 thing.

kuwaitliberation
Just for the "official" word: Future of the 3800 Production of the 3800 V6 is unofficially scheduled to end before summer's end in 2008. Originally GM had set this date for January 1, 2005, however due to the vast number of complaints from both investors and customers because of the popularity and reliability of the engine, the date was extended. At the end of production, the LX9 3500 OHV V6 will replace the naturally aspirated 3800 applications, and the LY7 3600 DOHC V6 will replace the supercharged 3800 applications. My "unofficial" thoughts are they will NOT get rid of that engine. That is on Ward's 10 Best Engines of the 20th Century (that is every engine in the entire world that it was compared to) and is considered by many to be second only to GMs Small Block V-8. Truthfully, I do believe they will have the Gen IV. What the actual numbers will be, who knows. However, the Cadillac CTS and STS have the LLT which is the 3.6 direct injection which produces 302 hp. That will come out on the 2008 models. I believe it will be the upgrade engine. It is actually touted to get better MPG than the 3.6 already in production with way more HP.
