3.8L Supercharged Gen IV?

Has anyone else heard that there is a possible 3.8L Supercharged Gen IV coming out somewhere in the near future? Someone told me and I am seriously hoping this is true. They said over 300hp which might be an exaggeration but I could have some fun with that.

Actually, I remember reading about that somewhere, it was from a guy with a fiero, he had links to some other site that talked about the LQ1 having 265-275HP on the prototype models, but due to GM's decision making  they tuned it down and made a milder version for production. I remember him making a crazy intake from something he designed on his computer that was supposed to be a "perfect" design for the LQ1, and how the stock one is completely inefficient. I do remember it was gigantic. I can't remember if it was just the upper or the lower too, he made that, ported and polished it, and other than that all he had was stronger valve springs, and he showed a pic of a 260-285 or so hp dyno, He said the redline went to almost 8000 with the mods. I wish I could remember where I saw that, I know he had pics and shit and wasn't just making it up.

i've heard form many people over the years about how the 3.4 "was" i've heard everything from different cams, to different timing, to VVT heads, to any number of things. 275hp seems to be about the only constant thing here. i won't say that it didn't have that number originally, but i'd like to hear first hand from someone who worked on the LQ1 way back when.

GM said that 2008 will be the last model year for the Buick 90º V6.

I can't speak for 275, but in 1994 GM built a single 250 HP LQ1, it went in a Monte Carlo Z34 built to be a pace car for the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

I'll try to get the magazine article scanned today and post it up (June 1994 Chevy High Performance, P64)

This is the same car pictures in my magazine, minus the strobe light bar along the top of the rear window.

To get the extra 50 hp the magazine says they made changes to cylinder heads, compression ratio and exhaust system.

Now, I think these plans may have changed, because that race was paced by a Vette according to google

I was at that race and the Monte paced it.

Kevwood is the person everyone is speaking of about the high output 3.4.

He had a machine shop add material to the heads, then rework the ports. He's using the stock intake manifolds AND stock exhaust manifolds. He just has a good tune and his heads reworked.

I think he had right about 265 to the wheels. Aaron hated this(obviously) because he couldn't build an NA car like this. Tried bashing and saying it wasn't possible until the dyno charts were posted, and the shop that did the heads joined up. He shut his mouth up pretty damn quick.

No, there will be no Gen IV.

The 3.4 DID originally make 275hp, but it had to be detuned because the transmission guys are GM couldnt build an AT strong enough to support it. the 284 could handle it though, and i really wish they would have made the 275hp version an option with the 5-speed.

there will not be a gen IV. sorry.

See I always thought this was an urban legend?

Maybe a prototype, but I don't think it was in production form.

GM had the engine ready for production. The trans guys couldn't meet the deadline, so they had to change it up real quick, and mike minor alterations to a transmission already in use.
