supreme_style21 Posted June 22, 2003 Report Posted June 22, 2003 How the *$*# do you remove a plug that is stuck tight? I pretty much doubt the plugs have ever been changed in this car.. We got all of them except the back middle one. It is stuck tight. We didn't want to force it too much.. if it breaks, I would be fairly screwed. Quote
NOHC_WBody Posted June 22, 2003 Report Posted June 22, 2003 send some WD-40 towards the bottom of the plug indentation, and let it soak for about 20-30 minutes. Then try it. Quote
Slade901 Posted June 23, 2003 Report Posted June 23, 2003 Make sure the car engine is very cold. Engine not running for 12 hours or so. If the engine is warm then it would be a little bit difficult to remove the spark plugs. Do it when the temperature is not high like early in the morning or late in the afternoon. Like they said, WD40 should do fine when you let it soak. Quote
phantomFE3 Posted June 23, 2003 Report Posted June 23, 2003 fuck wd-40, use a mans lubricant, croil baby, nothin but the best, we use knock'er loose at school, but croil works damn good enough for me Quote
Robby1870 Posted June 23, 2003 Report Posted June 23, 2003 if you use WD-40, be sure none gets into the combustion chamber!! Its a solvent and might mess some rings, or cylinder walls up Robby Quote

The car has a miss in it when I am just taking off from a stop, and I haven't been able to get that final plug changed, so I was hoping the miss is caused by the bad plug. Quote
Robby1870 Posted June 23, 2003 Report Posted June 23, 2003 I was just letting ya know, so you dont poor a shit ton down there. Im sure a little bit wont hurt. What do you mean miss off idle?? Like it hesitates?? Robby Quote
cutlsp Posted June 23, 2003 Report Posted June 23, 2003 i had the same problem with one of mine the boot part broke but not the nut and none of them broke as i was putting the new ones in so what if the old one breaks also it helps putting the engine back in place and removing the alternator to get to the back spark plug i'm sure all of mine would have been a pain to and it was the same center one on the back that gave me trouble. not rotating the engine makes it easy cause use will be able to put your hole body into removing the spark plugs. Ok.. say I am stopped at a light.. turns green, I step on the gas, and it 'momentarily' cuts out.. like the engine is going to die, then it takes off and goes fine. Quote
ismellrealbad Posted June 23, 2003 Report Posted June 23, 2003 i hate to tell u this but that sounds like an electrical prob. go rip ur spark plug out, then check ur battery and alternator Quote

Ok.. say I am stopped at a light.. turns green, I step on the gas, and it 'momentarily' cuts out.. like the engine is going to die, then it takes off and goes fine. Mine did the same thing, when I cleaned the throttle body, I also replaced the TPS and it doesn't do it anymore. You might have a TPS that is sending erratic readings when it comes up off idle. Quote

Yeah, Whiskey River, I was going to say TPS. Mine did the same thing. New TPS, problem solved Robby Quote

Yeah, Whiskey River, I was going to say TPS. Mine did the same thing. New TPS, problem solved Robby Mine got to be a pain before I replaced it. It got so bad that the car would stumble going down the interstate. At those times when the throttle is barely open, it would stumble and kick. It is amazing what an $18 potentiometer can cause when going bad. Quote
Intlcutlass Posted June 24, 2003 Report Posted June 24, 2003 I hade the same thing happen to me. Craftsman makes easy outs for stripped nuts.I had my brother-n-law attach an easy out to the end of a spark plug socket, then I busted the porclin off the top of the plug, popped the easy on, and it came out with no problems. This was a plug I had worked on for 5 hrs, and could not get. It was in the firewall side, and I had tried everything. If you go up to your local craftsman store and look at a set of these you will see why they work. They are great. Quote
Baddflash Posted June 25, 2003 Report Posted June 25, 2003 You might try a bit of heat, as little as possible though and a small flame like handheld not oxy-ace. Heat the head around the plug and not the plug itself, give it a little then try getting it free if not give a little more heat. You want to use as little as possible and be careful as you can damage something. It does work and can be done without damaging anything, I've had to do it before. Quote
