how the hell do you disconnect the shift cables from the shifter? the ends have these bushings on the end (one rubber, on plastic). i can't see any way to get them out without breaking them. if i break them, can they be replaced or are the bushings discontinued?

i tried disconnecting the linkage from the tranny, but only one cable came off. the other just keeps spinning.

i have two hours before i have to get ready for work. i don't know when i'll have time to get at this again, so help me out.

At the shifter I believe thet just pop on and off. Take a screwdriver and pry them off. Always worked for me and never broke anything.

For the tranny, Theres a bracket that holds down the cables at the bushings. That braket is held down by a 15mm bolt I believe it is. The bolt is in the back towards the fire wall. Youll have to look for it to see it

i was worried that was going to break them, but it worked. thanks for the quick response

I worried the same thing, and then I got pissed and said "fuck it". Then I wondered how I would ever break it.

They are discontinued, and I don't believe anybody carries them aftermarket.

The GM part number is 14088170, and I'm pretty sure the only place you can get it is Vintage Parts LLC (they have a website but I don't remember the exact spelling, might just be vintageparts.com?) I paid $75ish shipped, but mount I got looks like crap. It looks like something was wrong with that batch of rubber, or it was a reject or something. they're genuine GM though.
