PASSLock pissing me off!

I have an issue with my PASSLock system on my Intrigue (see sig). Sometimes when I try and start it, it engages and acts like the battery is dead. The security light starts flashing and I have to wait 10-15 minutes before it will start. It's annoying and embarrassing. One of these days it's gonna happen at a really bad time and I'll be stranded in an emergency. Once it happened at a railroad crossing when I shut the car off to wait for a stopped train. I had to get out and open my hood and turn my flashers on so everyone backed up behind would go around me. I really don't want any major repair job and was hoping for a quick fix like pulling a plug or a fuse. Any thoughts?

I'm pretty sure that we both have PassKey II even though we're not listed on this page. Have you tried doing the obvious fixes and cleaning the key pellet and the ignition switch "reader" itself?

My keys don't look like that. They don't have the actual chips in them. It's something in the ignition how it reads the key

Oh. PassKey III? I really have no idea how to disable PKIII. I didn't know they had problems.

the only time i know of those to have probs is when a aftermarket alarm or car starter is installed. They are a pain in the balls

sTeVeZaSyChO had a similar problem on his Achieva and installed an aftermarket PASSLock bypass module (the type you use in conjunction with a remote start system) to get it to start.

 

I wouldn't be much help. All I did was figure out how to trick the VATS (PASSKey II) system in to thinking the proper key was in the ignition by cutting the 2 wires supplying the reader and jumpering across them with the proper resistance.

 

PASSLock? Nofa Kinclue. Ask Steve how he did it...

I know how to fix this problem... but I hate cops, especially state troopers, take it to GM they will "take care of you". Heres a solution sell me your car and I will fix it!!! Since I live in Toledo I can pick it up in about 15 minutes...

 

And its not called PassLock its called PassKEYIII hence the PK on your key or the M depending if its OEM or not!

i've always heard of the keys that have chips that you can see called VATS... did it change during a certain year?

Yes, except he doesn't have VATS. The Intrigues got PKIII.

My Cutlass had the "chip", but I just have a plain old two-sided key. I don't have any alarm or remote starter either
