mdelorie
CT just gave me a price on a premium / composite brake disc(s). Any idea how these differ from a "standard" brake disc?
Schurkey
"Composite" in this case means that it has a steel hub with an iron braking surface. Just like every one installed by GM on these cars. Nothing special there. You have to search to find an all-iron rotor--but they were available at one time. I tried 'em because I've had rotor warpage problems with my Luminas and I was looking for a cure. The all-iron rotor wasn't the cure I hoped it would be. "Premium" means whatever the seller wants it to mean. Hopefully, it means that it is NOT sourced from Communist China; and that it DOES have at least as many cooling fins as the GM product. It may mean that it's been given an anti-rust coating, and it might mean that it's had some slots or holes machined into the braking surface. I finally installed some "Premium" rotors from NAPA: UP PR85961L (Left front) and UP PR85961R (Right front.) About $80 each. Those rotors haven't warped.
