NVMY03GT
hey guys. I have to admit I didn't search before posting but I have a question real quick. Im looking to do my Rear Struts here very soon my guess is I need mounts and struts since the car has 200k and I don't think Struts hhave been replaced on it yet. Anyhow. I use this car for basic driving day to day, Im not doing AutoCross or anything else in it, I like a stiff ride and to be able to corner but again Im not looking to race it. I found the basic gabriel struts at AutoZone for like 27.99 a piece. Do they get cheaper? Is Gabriel a repetable brand? Also whats the difference between "Ready Mount" and just a regular strut? is there something special about the ready mount for $80.00? GP1138
I would recommend a little more than the cheapo Autozone struts, namely Monroe Sensatracs... I have a set of those in the back of my green GP and they're great. I'm not sure about the ready-mounts. I wouldn't mind buying cheapo front struts from Autozone, but I wouldn't buy the rear ones. Crazy K
the front ones are well protected, and are easy to remove and swap, and don't need a realignment. the rears are not well protected, are much more work to remove, and will mess up your alignment when you replace them. I run cheap Gabriel in the front, and I would take em back if they acted up and failed, but not the rear. One of my cars, the 93 vert, had sensatracs on the rear already when I bought it, and I added Gabriels to the front, although they were the used ones pulled from my 92 Lumina when I chopped it up. It handles fine. I would like to replace several of the OEM rear struts with sensatracs on the rear on other cars in my fleet.
Euro
x2 on the Monroe's. We have those on our Monte SS and I had them on my Lumina. Pretty good ride on the Lumina, little too soft for the Monte, so we're going with something firmer.

NVMY03GT
KYB's Heard about these also. How much do the run a piece? Also are the mounts univeral for Struts? I want the STIFF ride not the soft crap
toms92gpse
KYB's Heard about these also. How much do the run a piece? Also are the mounts univeral for Struts? I want the STIFF ride not the soft crap I have the Kybgr2s on my gp all around. I love them, mine have about 50k on them and still ride as stiff as they did new. It ended up being around $200 for the struts and the mounts for the front and the mounting kits for the rear. You are going to want to replace the mounts. The sensatracs are 49 each front at my work (advance Auto), and the kybgr2s are 44 each for the front at my work. The rear are 53 each for the sensatrac and 59 each for the kybgr2s. So for a set of either one all the way around will be a little over 200. The you got tog et the mounts have the time they are what makes all the squeaking sounds. I'm not sure if AutoZone can order monroe struts I doubt it, but i do believe they can get the Kybs. I know you don't like the local doofball at your advance. 1990lumina
I run Monroe Senstracs in my Lumina..they are very close to stock ride IMO, but I like them, and I got them for a good deal (buy one get one free lol) I dunno what car you drive, but struts aren't the biggest factor in "stiff vs. soft", gotta take into account springs too. Woah Find that deal for me!!!! It's a 1995 Grand Prix. The Back end I can't change the spring because of the MonoLeaf thing so the stiffer the better on the strut. It happens 2-3 times a year here at Canadian Tire, and other stores too. Still cost me I think $110CDN for one strut, so I was happy the other was free lol..and I reused my old mounts, but they didn't have 200k on them either Good luck! NVMY03GT
So if I understand this right. There are two bolts on the bottom that keep the bottom of the strut locked in. Then there is two on top that keep the top threaded in. On is the CENTER bolt for on the top of the tower? Also how hard are the mounts to get in?
19Cutlass94
Correct, there are 4 bolts, two lower, and two upper. The mount is easy, just take off the top bolt, on top of the mount, and just change the struts, reusing that mount.

Or how is it held on?
NVMY03GT
Does anyone have pictures of doing this not really diagrams but actual pictures?
19Cutlass94
The mount is held on by the two bolts at the top. The strut is attached to the mount by the center bolt on the top of the mount ( in the trunk youll see this bolt )
