use synchromesh or the amsoil equivalent. the amsoil is actually cheaper plus its synthetic. i think my 284 was like 2 quarts, but i cant remember for sure and i dont have alldata on this computer. the wrong dipstick is in there so im not sure how you would get the correct fluid level. mine had the wrong dipstick in it, too.

edit: you said you have alldata. where are you looking?

The 282 in my cav was 2 quarts, I just used syncromesh. I thought I'd be smart since it's a PITA to fill and fill it before we threw it back in  woops, had to buy another quart  forgot axles seal trans  I think I should have been paying more attention and drinking less beer  that's some expensive shit to be draining on the ground. It does look brown when drained too. I used a funnel with a long hose on the end, like a beerbong, worked great :thumb:

ya like 23 bucks a quart expensive. just went out n got that

oh yeah and im using an 89 gp on alldata. it has categories for eveything under the sun under manual trans but once u click only other pns, labor ops, or torque specs. or in one case the capacities for the trans for 4cyl cars for some reason

Hmmm... I got it for $12 a quart at Clements Chevrolet in Rochester, MN. I am planning on changing the lube in my 282 soon. In case you didn't know, your supposed to every 30,000 miles, I didn't know till I read it in the Haynes book. Most people wouldn't change it that often, but I want my Cav to last. The town I work in, about 12 miles from my place, Osage, IA has a tiny little GM dealership that sells GM Syncromesh for only $10.38 a qt. That's the cheapest I've ever heard of it, so it pays to check around. I was told to only use that by a few mechanic's, but that may not be true. I am just going with syncromesh because like I said, I want the car to last, and it's worth the $12 a quart to me for the good shit, and I mean it only takes 2 qt's. I've never delt with the 282 in a W but the cav is crammed, the only way to fill it is either a funnel with a really long spout, or do like I did, I bought a cheap ass funnel and about 2 ft. of clear hose about 5/8's or so. It fit right inside the filler tube.

by the way:

use synchromesh or the amsoil equivalent. the amsoil is actually cheaper plus its synthetic.

Gm Syncromesh actually say it's partially synthetic on the back of the bottle, was just reading it. Got one here with at least $4 worth left in it  the remainder of the extra quart that ended up on the ground

hmm, alldata is where i found the capacity when i was finding out how much mine took (looked under a 91). there was a bunch of different cars, but they were on the list. i think it was under like all others or something.

i think i paid like $6 a quart and the amsoil stuff is like 5 for me.

91 would bea 284 tho...and damn u people and ur good prices

only 3.4s had the 284, so any 3.1 5 speed would have a 282, regardless of year.
