SLEEPR92 Posted June 18, 2003 Report Posted June 18, 2003 Hi, guys! Wow. It is so cool to FINALLY find a well-populated W-Body message board! With your guys' help, maybe my Regal will be resurrected and not transferred to a new owner (read: sold). I have had my Regal for about three years now, and have been very satisfied with it (except for the infamous braking system funny business). Especially after rejuvenating the car's performance capability with the mods mentioned below. But, I am always hungry for more. The big question :?: : Would it be possible to somewhat directly swap a supercharged Series II 3800/4T65E tranny (along with the necessary acompanying pieces and parts) into my Regal without any major modifications????? Would I be able to use the same motor mounts, or....? How about the tranny mount? I do realize that I also would need a new ECM, wiring harness, fuel pump, and axles. If it can be done, then I will by-all-means do it. Otherwise, it may be time to look for a new W-Body. Any input, advice, help, etc. on this would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks, guys!!! Quote
Redfox340 Posted June 18, 2003 Report Posted June 18, 2003 Oh right to the big modifications! Excellent! First off, welcome! Hope you'll find some great information on your Regal. But to get the lastest on the 3.8L supercharged swap head for L67swap.com. They've got full parts lists, tweaked out vehicles and other goodies. Best of luck! - Erik Quote
Robby1870 Posted June 18, 2003 Report Posted June 18, 2003 Use the search function, this has been discussed many times. Also, http://www.l67swap.com has good stuff. Im pretty sure, since you have the Gen I 3.8, you would need the motor mounts from the donor car. Prolly be easier to just take the whole engine cradle/subframe and swap it in. It is do-able though Robby EDIT: Damn, Erik, beat me to it!! Quote

91GranSport Posted June 18, 2003 Report Posted June 18, 2003 Damn! We got another Regal here! Good to see a lot more Buicks on this forum than there were a couple years back! I remember when it was only Tom (SuperBuick) and myself. Yes, you can transplant all of that and I think it uses the same tranny and motor mounts. By the way, what're the current specs on your car? Here are mine: '91 Regal GS FE3 "GranSport" performance suspension 3800 TPI V-6 original engine 4T60 original transmission 180,000km front struts in need of replacement front strut bearings in need of replacement rear shocks in need of replacement all four tires need in need of replacement bodywork needed new paint needed But still drives like a dream and A/C is cold as Satan's touch. Baddflash Posted June 18, 2003 Report Posted June 18, 2003 Welcome, I thought it was pretty cool to find this board too. I think bolting the motor in is the easy parts, although some pieces will need to be swapped with the donor. The tricky part is the wiring, but you could get someone to do that for you. I know there are a few guys on L67swap.com that do. I was told it'll cost ya $300 plus shipping and you need to send both cars engine and interior harness's. Good luck with a swap and if you don't I'm sure you can beef up that old 3.8L. Quote
phantomFE3 Posted June 18, 2003 Report Posted June 18, 2003 hehe the AC compressor does work at all for my car, so i guess you could say it blows as hot as satans fart Quote
Lee Posted June 18, 2003 Report Posted June 18, 2003 Hi, fellow 4dr Regal!!!!! We have the same......okay, you have a bigger motor, but they're close. Check out the www site. I got some pics there. I need to update though. Welcome Quote
SLEEPR92 Posted June 18, 2003 Author Report Posted June 18, 2003 Hey, guys! This swap has been on my mind for the past few months, now. I have also been doing some research to find-out just how complicated this swap would be. On a positive note, everything I would need is easily accessible from junkyards within a 30-40 mile radius of me. (Engine, tranny, axles, ECM, wiring, etc.; I would purchase a brand new fuel pump) Based on the prices that the junkyards are asking for all of these parts, along with a few extra parts, I have figured that the swap would cost somewhere in the $4500-$5000 range. For those of you that have done/are doing the swap, is this a reasonable figure??? Also, going back to the issue of the motor & tranny mounts: Would I just be able to buy the mounts for the SC 3800 & 4T65E tranny and directly bolt them on in the current locations, or would some welding and fabrication be involved??? Lee: About your exhaust system: Is that a custom-bent system, or....??? I am looking for a very similar setup, except with no mufflers at all. Quote
Robby1870 Posted June 18, 2003 Report Posted June 18, 2003 4500-5000?? That seems a little high. Most L67/4T65E HD combos I have heard of go for 1000-1500. Unless your not doing the work yourself, 4500-5000 seems a little high Robby Quote
Baddflash Posted June 18, 2003 Report Posted June 18, 2003 I would think around $2000 to be a resonable price but I guess that depends on how many miles on motor and trans. For $5000 you should easily be able to buy the entire car. Quote
