Scottster
I have been flirting with the idea of upgrading my audio since I bought this GP, and as you guys can see from my other post about 6x9's in a box, I'm not an expert. I know the basics, as alot of my buddies are audio guys, which I appreciate but I'm not to discriminating. Anyway, is this a viable setup for an audio-dummy like me? I want the sound to be "full", but of course not spend to much. I thought I'd complement these with some nice tweeters in the dash. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-mPHbmiI45cg/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=208250&I=700XM2002X

slick
http://www.onlinecarstereo.com, http://www.mmxpress.com, http://www.sounddomain.com, http://www.justwoofers.com, etc..... for most people, and ebay. You just need to know what your buying. For diy'ers, like myself and one or two others on this board, http://www.madisound.com, http://www.partsexpress.com, and a few others where you can pick and choose your own components. pwmin
crutch is okay if you find closeouts or scratch n dent since they have really good customer service, at least in my experience. i have 2 12" RF punch stage 1's and a Kenwood amp (all used) that i could probably sell you. they arent real high quality but it would sound a lot better and be cheaper than that. shipping might kinda suck though. Scottster
Thanks for the pointers, and research guys. I didn't know about those discount audio sites. Frankly, I thought Crutchfield was the only "online audio store". Anyway, beyond that I'd probably be content with the 12's, but understand that 10's are cleaner, being that they are smaller and more responsive? Andrew
but understand that 10's are cleaner, being that they are smaller and more responsive? we had quite the debate about this a while back. no, smaller subs are not necessarily more responsive, or cleaner. thats a big myth right there. it all depends on the sub, set-up, magnet size, amp........... ive personally bought from ikesound, and terry has bought from onlinecarstereo, both are A OK! Puggsley456
If you are looking for a nice 10" I would recommend the TC sounds 10 OEM that they are selling right now for $175.......I'm looking at running 4 of them. http://www.tcsounds.com/forums/index.php?s=4cd586c5854e3380a17408a6fa552310&showtopic=1013
J
The only downfalls I see for that sub is the amount of power it takes to push it, and the high price tag.

Monkton
What if one doesn't care about excursion? then you pack up your dolls and teacups, then go home and cry. Hehe... But yeah, definitely don't buy Sony and look around at other places, I got extremely ripped off when I bought my subwoofer. I didn't really know what I was doing and I got a Kicker 10'' L5 for $175 from Circuit City... major rip off didn't even come with the box. But I got like $20 back from them because it was $20 cheaper like a week after I bought mine. Don't get me wrong I love the woofer but I could have found it MUCH cheaper somewhere else. Also don't go cheap, I spent around $225 for the sub + box, about $200 for an amp, and $200 for new front and rear speakers and I just have an okay system. I don't even have my speakers amplified yet.
GtipGary
Ive always had good luck with kicker cvr i had two twelves and two tens in my grand prix for a while but it was too much. so now i just have the two tens. you can get the kickers from circuit city for like 150$ and you get a two year warranty. As far as amps go phoenix gold has never done me wrong and hifisoundconnection.com is where i got mine for a good price
GtipGary
dont know why the hell i put tens i have two twelves in a sealed box i got for thirty dollars from the flee market with a 1500 watt monoblock phoenix gold octane r amp... as for the octane r subs ... i dont mean to knock them but my brother had to of the octane twelves and he blew both of them ... may have been because of too much power... but he got the new kicker cvxs and they sound great
