Robby1870 Posted June 17, 2003 Report Posted June 17, 2003 Alright, been doing some thinking. I know the 3100 heads will bolt to my block, BUT, will my lower intake bolt to the 3100 heads? I like the long runners on my lower intake, for good low end torque. From some pics I have of the two, it looks like my lower intake would bolt to them. Are the valves on the 3100 splayed, like mine? One pic I have shows them to be lie mine. Cuz, I woud like to be able to use my rockers on the 3100 heads. Just wondering, cuz like I said, I been doing some thinking about where to take this motor. Oh, and using the 3100 heads wouldnt change my compression ratio, right? (and I know I would need the 3100 exhaust manifolds) Robby Quote
Guest TurboSedan Posted June 17, 2003 Report Posted June 17, 2003 oh someone does, c'mon..... i don't myself really, i have never even had the 3.1 or 3100 apart that far! i will be shortly tho otherwise you could check http://www.60degreev6.com good luck joshua Quote
Robby1870 Posted June 17, 2003 Author Report Posted June 17, 2003 Well, here's the pics (from Vegeta's site), that I have referred to My Gen 2 is on the top of each pic, and Gen 3 is on the bottom COPY/PASTE!! http://members.fortunecity.com/robby1870/gen2vsgen3intake.html http://members.fortunecity.com/robby1870/gen2vsgen3exhaust.html http://members.fortunecity.com/robby1870/gen2vsgen3cc.html I know the patterns of the intakes are different, but I would port/polish heads and intakes anyway, and then just match them up. And, use my rockers if I can. Robby Quote
Brian P Posted June 18, 2003 Report Posted June 18, 2003 The gen 2 manifolds are longer but not by much. Going to a gen 3 setup will do lots. As far as Im concerned the lower gen 2 won't bolt up to a gen 3 set of heads, but I gotta ask why you want 3100 heads in the first place! The heads will not change the compression ratio Quote
Robby1870 Posted June 18, 2003 Author Report Posted June 18, 2003 Well, I been doing some thinking. And, from what I have heard, a ported/polished 3.1L head flows about as well as a stock 3100 head. So if I port/polish a 3100 head, even better flow. But, why I ask is that my sister had a pretty good size wreck in her 96 GP (with 3100), it wasnt her fault, and everyone was okay, but, if it is totaled, I want to buy it and use whatever I can from it (and sell what I can, cuz the interior is excellent shape). Im just thinking of where I want to take my motor as far as performance. I know it wont raise compression, but, some day, higer compression pistons will. I just dont know if want to build a n/a low-end torque monster or a high-boosting high-end HP animal. Im just trying to think of ways to get performance and what would swap over. Another reason I ask is that I want to keep my plenum, which would mean my lower intake too, cuz I want the motor to look original. Plus, I dont want to swap over all the other stuff, sensor placement what not. Well, thats the story. Robby Quote
