phantomFE3 Posted June 17, 2003 Report Posted June 17, 2003 im just wondering if you guys could put your 2 cents in on how much horsepower i have in my cutlass, its the 3.1 MPFI with about 170,000 miles on it, i have a custom made cold air intake with a K&N cone filter on it, i bought a can of 6cyl engine performance restorer that goes in your oil and i put a can of that in, and then for the exhaust i have a pipe leading back and it splits as it goes over the rear ael and its hooked up to 2 Thrush turbo mufflers. i also have added STP complete fuel system cleaner. i know its not much mods, but the stock horsepower is 140 horsepower, i know that it has lost some of its umph over 170,000 miles but thats why i put the engine restorer lubricant in it and fuel system cleaner, just tell me what you think, thanks Quote
Robby1870 Posted June 17, 2003 Report Posted June 17, 2003 EDIT: 135-145 (didnt see how many miles were on it) Robby Quote
phantomFE3 Posted June 17, 2003 Author Report Posted June 17, 2003 130!??!?! are you sure? i dont think my engine couldve floated THAT much for the miles!! Quote
Brian P Posted June 17, 2003 Report Posted June 17, 2003 170 k the camshaft is more than likely worn significantly among other things like decreased compression that engine restorer won't correct. So I stand by my 130....but every engine is different just go to the dyno Quote
phantomFE3 Posted June 17, 2003 Author Report Posted June 17, 2003 there was a dyno in town the other day, i stopped by but didnt go on, i woulda been embarassed, there were 4 mustangs that woulda been ahead of me to go on the dyno, 1 with a HUGE bottle of nitrous, 1 with a vortech supercharger and 1 with a 351 cobra engine yah i think they all woulda been laughin at me, even if i did make more than 140 hp :dammit: but yah, so to get my engine up to date i would get new pistons, hone the cylinders to break the glaze, and put a new camshaft in? what if i did that, what would your estimate on horsepower be then? significant increase? Quote
phantomFE3 Posted June 17, 2003 Author Report Posted June 17, 2003 plus we could check the compression very easily you know, just would have to take out a spark plug and crank er over with the compression tester on, then we would see how much compression she has Quote
Robby1870 Posted June 17, 2003 Report Posted June 17, 2003 yeah, if you did all that, you might as well bore the block, high performance cam, port/polish heads, intakes, go through the whole motor. Then you will see some significant gains Robby Quote
phantomFE3 Posted June 17, 2003 Author Report Posted June 17, 2003 but see i want to keep it as stock as possible (for the Phantom mod's sake) i might go to the junkyard and buy a complete 3.1 and build it up, i know my engine is due for a rebuild, but i think if i got a used engine, beefed it up and when the old one went out i could swap in the beefed up one, and rebuild the old one to stock specs and keep swapping back and forth rebuilding them! ha! sounds like fun, and ill have the original motor when i go to sell it in 30 years so ill get like 20,000 more for it! Brian P Posted June 17, 2003 Report Posted June 17, 2003 I really wouldn't be worrying about anything for the sake of the phantom name. Quote
