Tranny problem

My neighbor has a '90(?) lumina 3.1. A few weeks ago something happened with the tranny. They started it and when they put it in gear nothing happened. No noise, nothing. The shifter cable isn't broke, I checked that first. I can hear the s4elector moving in the tranny but that's it. There are no other noises and no movement. Any ideas?

Obvious question I bet, but is there fluid on the dipstick?

well im not sure how the fuses are on the lumina , but on my cutty there is a fuse for the tranny on passenger side under the hood , i had this problem before and i replaced the fuse and it was all good then ... take a look and see if it has a fuse , if so it may be blown

Yes, there is fluid on the dipstick. I'll check for that fuse right now.

Set the emergency brake, start the car, put the gear in Drive, then check the fluid level and topped it off to the max and then hit the brake while releasing the emergency brake. Check to ee if the car moves then.

Vacuum line possibly? I remember when I had my 94 Euro(4T60-E), sometimes I would get to a stop sign, stop, hit the gas to go, and the engine would just rev! I would have to put the car back into park for a couple seconds, then back into D and off I'd go. GM has some of the weirdest trannies I've ever experienced.

Does the 4t60-e use the vacuum line that comes off the plenum behind the TB? I think someone said before it does but I'm not sure.

Im pretty sure it does use that line, I would go look on my sis's 96 GP with 3100, but its totaled. Anyway, I really think the 4T60E does use that vacuum line (dont know if its in the same place as for 3.1L/4T60).

Like the dumbass I am, I forgot I have a 4t60-e sitting in my driveway in the '94 CS. It does have the vacuum line. I looked at another '90 Lumina today and it was the same way as my neighbors. The nipple on the intake has a vacuum plug on it. I don't understand that.

BTW: I have a pic of the Lumina I looked at today. It was in a car show. I'm going to post it in the whatever section later if anyone wants to see it.

yeah, I forgot you had the CS in your driveway too. But, you should have remembered before anyone else on here!!  So on your CS plenum, there is a nipple?? I know on my 3.1L its a screw in connection. Wonder why they decided on a nipple??
