19Cutlass94
First off, I dont know if this is normal or not. But a while ago, I had my car in 1st gear, and it was whining like a manual with straight cut gears. It shifts fine, absolutly no problems fluid is perfect etc etc. I didnt get going very fast with it, maybe about 15mph tops. Does this sound strange to anyone else? Im not worried about it, but curious more or less.
97loudcut
Are you positive it is something to do with the transmission?
19Cutlass94
Im pretty sure yes. Its only time that it happens... I dont know of anything else that would be making that kind of whine
Dark Ride
When you had it shifted to just 1st gear? Every car I've driven made a sort of whine or something if it was set to just 1st gear, I'm not really sure why.
BXX
Thats a sign the pump is on it's way out... Yeah, that's from experience
19Cutlass94
yeah I had put it in 1st gear. Its the only time it makes the whine... I guess its nothing to worry about then... just odd how it does that...
BXX
You put it in manual first and it whines?? That is typically caused by too high of line pressure which is boosted in the first place in manual 1st... It still shouldn't do that regardless, something is bad... Get a new tranny filter/gasket and some good fluid and change it... Something is prolly restricting the flow for manual 1st...
19Cutlass94
I changed the fluid not too long ago ( Ill admit I havent put it in manual 1st since, but then again I havent drove the car since the fluid change ) so next time I drive the car Ill have to see if it still does it. The fluid wasnt bad when it came out, there was just a hint of burnt smell but nothing bad at all to point where you would be seriously concerned. BXX
^^ It that kinda crap which makes me happy my GP is a 5-speed .. I've already have 4 W's previously with auto's and had some problems with their worn out junks trannies...
19Cutlass94
This tranny is the original one with like 104xxx on the clock. When it does Im pretty sure a 5spd will be going in, but it just doesnt seem like its on its way out by any means
BXX
104K, yeah, prolly not, but something is obviously wrong... But I personally wouldn't worry about until you have serious problems..
BCM
The Intrigue makes that sound when it's in 1st only. Pretty much it just adds to the existing PS whine

Crazy K
it's just a nuisance at this point. make sure your tranny is topped off, and try running it through all the gears and at speed.
digitaloutsider
Every 440T4/4T60 car I've been in did this.
