rockfangd Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 cut one off a donor and splice it into yours as a replacement Quote
DiscoStudd Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 I have a better idea: Cut off a donor plug, note which wires go where, then take the terminals out of both new and old plugs and install your car's wires into the new plug... Quote
dohc v6 Posted March 23, 2007 Author Report Posted March 23, 2007 Yeah but you cant get the wires out. GM used a special coating for the wires for the weather, since they are outside. Splicing wires unless i do an awsome freak job, will get water in some where and blow fuses all the time. And probably when its raining and when I would need the wipers. Quote
DiscoStudd Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 Soldering iron, heat shrink tubing, and a ton of electrical tape to wrap everything tight. That'll keep the moisture out... Quote
digitaloutsider Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 3M makes this stuff that you can coat the splices in that basically turns into rubber to prevent any moisture from getting any. Hell we used that on my HUD project. Solder 3M stuff Electrical Tape Heatshrink Quote
rockfangd Posted March 24, 2007 Report Posted March 24, 2007 well the difficult part is getting the wires out of the donor plug, because of the coating Quote
DiscoStudd Posted March 24, 2007 Report Posted March 24, 2007 Get a can of Xylene or Toulene (look in the paint supply section of Home Depot, near the paint removers.) Either will disolve the "conformal coating." Quote
z34Phoenix Posted March 24, 2007 Report Posted March 24, 2007 solder, shrink wrap, tape. if that doesnt hold it you did something wrong. Quote
dohc v6 Posted March 24, 2007 Author Report Posted March 24, 2007 I will try that stuff at the depot. Thanks Quote
rockfangd Posted March 24, 2007 Report Posted March 24, 2007 Get a can of Xylene or Toulene (look in the paint supply section of Home Depot, near the paint removers.) Either will disolve the "conformal coating." now that is a good idea. Quote
