Miko K
Can you guys help out? I am trying to get reman-d CV halfshafts for a 1989 CS with a getrag( my 1996 that I am doing the swap on) the trans came out of a 1989 CS, I got a set from autozone- they send 2 identical one, P/N 8156, and both had the female ends on the inside, my trans has the jack shaft on the pass. side that uses one of those, but the 1996 axle is about 3" too short, the driver's side uses the male end with the splines on the outside(not sure of the number of splines) and the one from a 4T65E-HD did not fit it. Just went to advanceautoparts to order their $103-a-piece shafts and the pic shows the driver's side as a female end again. What's the deal? Miko K
cuanto? HOW MUCH?
BXX
You need PN 8578 (Driver side, no ABS) and PN 8565 (Passenger side, No ABS), and of course a 35mm socket Yes, they do exist... I was gonna reply this in a thread I read yesterday with somebody saying they can't find one... Took this at work earlier tonight while putting stuff up
Crazy K
I need these same axles..... BUT WITH ABS!!!! Did they make 5 speed cars with the PMIII? or?????
BXX
PN 8550 (Driver side, w/ ABS) and PN 8561 (Passenger side, w/ABS) These are AutoZone part numbers... Also, since you are swapping the 282 into a 96, you will prolly need to go to early model hub assemblys... I don't know if the splines are the same.. EDIT: The 89 and 96 hub assemblies are the same, never mind
digitaloutsider
My Cutlass has PM3. I don't think 282 and 284's share axles though.
BXX
My Cutlass has PM3. I don't think 282 and 284's share axles though. You are correct, they are different... 284 5-speed PN w/o ABS 8443 (fits either side) PN w/ABS 8473 (fits either side)
RJansen658
ROFL Yes ha you non believers.
Miko K
Well, I got them from NAPA, they don't have ABS reluctors. I knew that my ABS was doomed, but today I went and took it out completely, wires fuses and all. Saved a healthy 15lbs The other stores had the years messed up, when ordering, make sure you don't get 2 same P/N's.
Crazy K
so they did not have ones with the ABS reluctors? or you choose not to get them?
Miko K
Their part numbers are all screwed up, so they might, but my counter person got those, I went home and then I found that they were ABSless and said screw it, ABS is outa here. Crazy K
take them back! I've got a set I won't be using.... IF i find ones with the ABS reluctors. looks like Murrays re-manufactured the set I have. Make that damn auto store work for their money. Miko K
Well, it's too late now- I spray painted the metal parts so they don't rust and installed them and dropped the car on it's wheels. Done deal, I'm kinda glad I finally found a good enough reason to get rid of the ABS. For the 8 years I've owned the car I never, not even once used the ABS to save my ass from a crash. And the one and only accident with a vehicle I had was caused by locked up front wheels, the damn ABS did not respond ( and it was working). My 1/4 mile time just dropped by a 0.001sec
ismellrealbad
PN w/ABS 8473 (fits either side) just go into autozone and tell them 8473?? what a puny part number, but good to know. i will be making a trip there
BXX
Just tell them it's a part number for ahalfshaft.. They still should look it up by vehicle so the warrenty information gets entered. just use that number for varification...
ismellrealbad
i ordered the axles for a 282 from autozone, and they keep fucking giving me both passenger side axles. i was talking with him and watching him definitley put in left side, using the lh part number, and for the 3rd time now i get the passenger side. im getting really pissed off and i dont know where else to get it from
Miko K
I went through the same deal, got mine from napa, same price $65, but no ABS reluctors, so you can either take them apart and change the outer cups, or just screw the ABS and install them the way they are. I went the extra mile and took out the wheel sensors, changed the master cylinder to non-ABS and got rid of all the wiring.
ismellrealbad
Well that def makes me feel better that 1)people working at my autozone cant be idiots and 2)its not just my luck. but im trying to keep my car as "stock" as possible plus i like ABS in the rain and some dry situations. as it is i dont have cruise control or DIC(94-96 or 97+) cuz of the L67 swap. one more major thing is gunna make me upset. yea im anal. advance has one only from their website but its $130 including core not shipped. seems like my luck 90% chance itll be wrong then ill really be screwed. car-par.com has all non-abs. sigh this shouldnt be this fucken hard
Miko K
Then get the cheap NAPA ones and swap out the outer cups and all set.
ismellrealbad
im not trying to be a bitch but ive had plenty of bad experiences with pieced together axles so i would like to avoid doing that. can anyone get me a gm part number on the driver side w/abs
GutlessSupreme
I was half thinking about cutting the reluctor rings off my auto axles and welding them onto my getrag axles.. this thread is certainly pushing me to do so. I was thinking about swapping the whole end too which I may do instead. My getrag axles look like they're in good shape but I won't be happy without functioning ABS. ismellrealbad
OK...found a dude selling the axles on ebay. http://motors.search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?sofocus=bs&sbrftog=1&catref=C6&fcl=3&from=R10&mppfqy=cutless+supreme&satitle=cutlass+supreme&sacat=33729%26catref%3DC6&fmmk=&fmmd=&fylo=&fyhi=&mppfqy=cutless+supreme&sargn=-1%26saslc%3D2&sadis=200&fpos=08619&ftrt=1&ftrv=1&saprclo=&saprchi=&fsop=1&fsoo=1 i picked the auction for 88 cutlass MT driver side. i need a lil more info than that so i asked the dude if the driver side was actually the male inner tripod and if it was for ABS. he said yes to the male part so i had to respond again ok so what about the ABS? said yes again. i nearly collapsed out of joy but then i checked his feeback and its pretty damn bad. ive decided to take a chance and get it anyways
Miko K
And just when you think that you got the correct one for the passenger side from autozone, it probably is not. The autozone one is about 1.5" too short, though it fits, the bearings inside are pretty close to the end of the inner cup, check and make sure you can't push the axle inside the cup more than 1/2". ismellrealbad
i think i noticed the same thing. fuck how hard does this have to be. i have both sides coming from ebay hopefully this is right now
