ShockTherapy
I have volt gauge in my car that is relatively accurate, while im driving the gauge drops when i hit the gas, and becomes very sporadic when i turn my directional o,n, and the car bogs out when the gauge reads low. i at first thought the alternator was bad, changed that with a 180 amp reaman'd alternator ... which didn't solve the problem. i then changed the battery which still didnt solve the problem. i am running out of ideas. any suggestions? it is a 94 grand prix with the lq1 motor and the gauge reads below 10 at times
slick
Alternator could have been bad from the get go? Tensioner not properly tightened? Tighten your connections?
1990lumina
Can you verify the low voltage with a multimeter? And yeah, make sure your serpentine belt isn't slipping!
ShockTherapy
verified by multimeter @ my house. new belt made no difference. how do you test a tensioner? and moreso, how do you check for a slipping serpentine belt?
19Cutlass94
Make sure it has tension on the belt. Check all your grounds and power wires. Sounds like something is loose somewhere...
ShockTherapy
LOL @ Aux Power post. we fixed it.
rockfangd
good job. I was going to suggest either that or a bad fusible link. A bad fusible link can caus some probs when a higher voltage is output from the alternator. But still good job
SigEpCutlass
LOL @ Aux Power post. we fixed it. Yup they have a tendency to go bad Tim. Mine did the same thing.
Daggar
When you say aux power post you mean the remote jumper terminal next to the abs fuse block oon the driver side? Cause my car is doing the voltage thing too. It has a new alt in it, new battery also. Sometimes after the car died it's hard to restart.
