chadz34
When I start the car it just goes up and down with the rpm within about 300-400 rpm, this is only occasional and most noticed when it;s cold. I have been told I have no vaccum leaks does this mean I have a bad IAC?

19Cutlass94
Is it running rough? If so you have a vaccuum leak.
chadz34
Is it running rough? If so you have a vaccuum leak. Alrighty then, I potentially have one then. But, I was also tihnking the rough running could be cuased by no backpressure, as I have no mufflers.

Especially on todays cars as they really dont need any backpresure ( as compared to the carb'ed engines of 30-40yrs ago ) You have a vac leak

That way, I KNOW if I have a leak or not. Another thing is, when you are coming to a stop slowly you can kinda slightly feel the car downshift...not sure if thats normal or not. The car does go for new tranny fluid and shit on Friday so...
SigEpCutlass
I swear to god...just about every time Chad posts about that LQ1 DD he has in this section, the problem leads back to a vac leak. I had a vac leak on my cutlass and it took me damn near 3 hours to find it. I know vac leaks can be hard to find sometimes, but considering it's come up just about every time you've posted for help in this section, I'm surprised you haven't found it already. Good luck finding it.

Good luck finding it. I'm telling you man, this fucking car hahahaha I try so hard on it all the time. I hope I can find it, It's only ran the way it should for like 3 days total since I have owned it. It's all a part of owning a W-body, the damned things never work perfect....nothing does. Is there any tricks to finding vacuum leaks, if so, I will go and do the visible lines, and see if I can't find me a leak!
1990lumina
You can spray carb cleaner on any suspected areas that might have a leak. If there is a crack or dadmaged line the cleaner will be sucked into the motor and idle spped will change for a few seconds. This is the method I used to find vacuum leaks on my RX-7...and anyone who's seen the pics of the engine bay I have posted will understand why I have so many problems haha..it's ALL vacuum hoses running this ay and that! just be careful not to spray it onto anything that might ignite the carb cleaner! 19Cutlass94
Thats the best way to find a vac leak. Just spray it, and when it finds a leak, the engine will change ( its a noticeable change ) and theres your leak that you gotta fix
SigEpCutlass
I agree with Jay & Jeff...use carb cleaner.
