And that's how you kill a 2.8, powershifting on gravel. Snapped timing chain.

The car is way too much fun to not fix, plus I've got plenty of 2.8s and 3.1s laying around.

The 2.8 I'm dropping in there only has about 150,000 on it, but all new top end gaskets.

As for the clutch, I think I'll let her buck, I put it in new when I got the car, I suppose it's maybe got 20,000 on it. The interesting thing is that when I got the flywheel off the motor, the metal plate on the back of the cam had been leaking oil pretty decently, that kind of surprised me. I never had to add oil to the car, but it's always leaked. I'll be sealing it up on the new(er) motor before installation, should be one of the cleanest '89 CS engine bays around.

The main reason is it's still winter up here and all my 3.1s are in cars that I can't get to. Plus I heard once the 3.1 took a different flywheel, not sure if that's true. Also, I don't have any 3.1s that I know are as good as this 2.8. The 10-15 hp really makes no difference to me.

Because 3.1L's like to eat rod and main bearings...

Yeah, all the time

The flywheels are the same, at least between the gen 2's. I had a "new" 2.8 one mounted to my old 3.1

Yeah, they are also smoother... The rod/stroke ratio of a 2.8L would allow it to safely rev beyond 9000rpm with good components and valvetrain mods... The 3.1L have a bigger stroke and shorter rod that isn't very friendly to revs and adds much more strain on the cylinder walls and bearings... Damn side-loading forces

Yeah, cuz people have then revving to that high.

No 2.8's have a smaller flywheel than the 3.1's

I think the 2.8 has a 7" flywheel and the 3.1 has a 9" flywheel.

and I'm strictly talking about manuals.

I still want a 2.8 5speed car for shits and giggles.

I have poly torque strut bushings

So? I have them also. And my A/C is gone and my cat is gutted. I'd walk all over you.

A/C??? What's that?? Oh yeah, gone on mine as well... Hell, the mufflers are more restrictive than the cats, and I don't have a muffler... Sawzall FTW

PLease dont insult my car if you have never seen it run!!

BTW it has bigger nuts then a then a coconut tree

I wasn't insulting, I was just pointing out the truth... God, I couldn't image driving another 2.8L with an auto... Big difference between the auto and the 5-speed, more so than most cars
