Cooling fans

On the new GP, the cooling fans are on all the time. I turn the car on, and a few seconds later the fans turn on. No problems or anything, i just thought it was weird. Anybody know what could be wrong?

Still getting heat?? I'm sure other then pre maturely wearing out your fan motors and loading the electrical system you run the risk of over cooling when it's really cold outside.

I think someone had a similar issue with a GP like yours a few months ago..I'd search it for you but I doubt I'd find it..sorry man!

The 3100's have two temp sensors, one for the guage inside, and one for the ECM to sense when to turn on the fans. It sounds like the ECM's sensor if either fried, disconnected, or grounded out. All 3 of these scenarios will turn the fan on constant, but only 2 of them will turn on the SES light.

I looked over a neighbors new 93 lumina once. discovered that someone had placed jumper wires beneath the fan relays.

only on 95 down.

the 96+ 3100s have a three wire sensor. could be a bad sensor or.... my 93 vert does this when you start it after having run earlier the day.

what engine???

I didn't know/notice it changed in 96... still could be a bad sensor or wiring. Now that CrazyK mentioned the relay, it could be a stuck relay or jumpered.

Best way to tell would be to scan it with a scan tool capable of monitoring the sensor.

And besides premature fan death, the temp sensor is used by the ECM for a lot of things, a LOT... with an open or grounded sensor, the ECM will be doing a lot of things out of adjustment, maybe not even entering closed loop.

it a l36....so all the talk about 3100s is meaningless

um...yeah lol

nah not really.... either way it will have the same type of system. The sensor may be mounted somewhere else, but the wiring will work the same.

Would a bad CTS (Coolant Temp Sens) cause the SES light to come on? If that sens is on the fritz and sending a bad or wrong signal, it could be the reason why the fans are running too much. :dunno:

DUH...repost sorry...
