servoalt
Can someone please tell me how to stop the coolant from leaking at the water pump to bypass hose joint? I don't see a gasket, and there's only one 10mm bolt holding this puppy on, so I don't know what to do. Am I missing a gasket or o-ring or something? Here's a pic showing what I'm having trouble with. Is this what I need to put in there? Currently, there is no gasket at all, nor did one come off. http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductDetail.aspx?MfrCode=NEA&MfrPartNumber=824&PartType=109&PTSet=A Thanks... 97loudcut
Metal on metal or plastic on metal is not going to seal. I imagine there is a gasket that is supposed to go there. If not, silicon it!

servoalt
do you knwo what this gasket might be called? i dont even know what to ask for at the parts store. maybe show them my manual?
RJansen658
It should be an 8mm bolt.... you remove that bolt, then follow the tube to the right about 8 inches and there is a 15mm nut holding the tube to the cylinder head. Then where the tube wraps around the engine near the bottom of the throttle body is a 13mm nut also holding the tube in place. Disconnect the two small hoses from the tube for the throttle body cooling if equipped. Then pull up on the tube gently, if it is stuck slip a flat headed screwdrived under the flange and pop it up. There is an o-ring around the tube, can buy a new one at the parts store.
J
if i were home (parents) i'd send it out to you, all i know it is in the master rebuild kit. Thats the reason i had to get a sheet of gasket material, no one knew what it was called

If it is an early 3.1L it will have 2 8mm bolts holding it down, and yes it has a cork gasket. If it is a 3100 or late 3.1L it will have 1 8mm bolt, and it uses an o-ring. servoalt
Thanks guys. I went to the garage and looked at my spare '96 3100 bypass tube and it had that o-ring still attached. I guess this gasket is one of those things that should be replaced every time this bypass tube is pulled out. I'll pick one up tomorrow. Thanks again.
