RJansen658
Well, my plan was originally to put a 98+ L67 and 4T65E into a 92' Lumina 2dr., I am nearing the point where I need to buy the engine and trans, and it occured to me today that maybe I want a manual trans. I have never seen a manaul trans Lumina, but I hear they exist. As I thik about what would be required for the swap, the only thing I am really worried about is the clutch pedal. Do cars that came with automatics have the correct brackets, etc. to bolt in a clutch pedal? Will a manual trans from the 90-94 era even bolt up to a 98+ L67? Is there a newer manual trans that would bolt right into a 92' Lumina? Has anyone done this swap? I would assume it is the same for any 90-94 W. jeremy
some Z34s came with the 284 Getrag, and some GP/Cutlass cars came with either the 284 or the 282 Getrag....both trannys will swap in for you....I believe that you will have to swap in the complete pedal assembly from a manual tranny car as well as some other components from the donor. Your best best would be to buy a complete manual parts car so you have everything for the swap. There are tons of threads on the forum about this though, so look for them to find the exact details
Andrew
i forget his name, but he is on here often. he has a 96 GP with a l36 and 282. you may want to ask him for some pointers, although he did a motor swap, and your looking to do a trans swap. RJansen658
Well, after a bit of browsing..... it appears that 90-93 Luminas do indeed have correct provisions for clutch pedal mounting, and they lost them in 94. This would be ideal if I was keeping the stock 3.1 and simply swapping to a 5spd. Unfortunatley... I also discovered, that although I can mount the clutch pedals, since I am swapping in a 98+ L67, the only way to make the 282 5spd. work would be to trick the 98+ Automatic GTP PCM into thinking it is in drive all the time, and basically rigging the entire electrical system to force it to work. I don't much understand this, I mean, didn't they make 98+ GTP's with L67 & 5spds? If they did, couldn't I just use that PCM? and if I can use that PCM, then why not that trans too? The only assumptions I can make are: 1. They didn't make 98+ L67 5spd cars OR 2. They did, but the trans wont fit, and the PCM won't work with an earlier 5spd. These are the only thinks I can think to explain why it seems to be the general opinion that the only way to get it to work is by using a 98 L67, a 98 GTP auto PCM, a 90-93 282 and then forcing the auto PCM to work with a 5spd. Shouldn't there be a more "bolt-in" approach?
jeremy
they didn't make the l67 / 5 spd combo....you should probably contact brianteel....I think that he is the one that swaps in l67s for people and I believe he has mated them to the 5spds too

Oh well, I'll stick with the 4T65E then.
Q-Ball
Maybe just change some auto switch points if you get a new chip for it?
digitaloutsider
You need to use PowrTuner and just reprogram the PCM. There's not much to it on that end.
ismellrealbad
im in the middle of this swap right now (just started it 4 days ago) and in contact with brian.
