BXX
My GF kept putting off buying the parts so I can do her brakes on her 04 Monte Carlo... I finally told her to buy them and I would do them... Damn, i've been harassing her since October to get the stuff... 52K on the factory pads and rotors (she bought the car with 34 miles on it) is more than enough... Here, take a small peek at what I found when I pulled the front passenger side inboard pad out...  The rest were the same, and the rears were shot as well... Front and rear pads and rotors, about $220 for the good stuff (I get a 20% discount at AutoZone) and it took me under 1 1/2 hours for everything BTW, I really hate these damn clips.... BXX
Yeah, the only reason the pad material didn't fall out is because the caliper bracket wouldn't let it... If you look closely you can see where it had seperated and shifted clear to the end of the pad backing

BXX
Yeah, the clips suck... Donutboy97
considering on average the pads and rotors (at least the front ones) last 20,000 miles, it's not surprising that they look like that at 52,000 miles. the rotors and pads that GM put in these cars were crap. 5speedz34
whats that clip for? hold rotors to studs... useless and annoying. There used on the assembly line so the rotors don't fall off the hub.
Marchi1
That is awful, but I have seen one worse, and I forgot to take pictures. Needless to say we did a new caliper as she was using the piston as part of the pad......
BXX
That is awful, but I have seen one worse, and I forgot to take pictures. Needless to say we did a new caliper as she was using the piston as part of the pad...... That is how my sisters Malibu got... She refused to spend the money on brakes because they cost too much She finally had them replaced when the caliper's piston finally gave way to the rotor and locked up the wheel... Man I wish I had pics of that... The parts store she went to refused to take the caliper back as a core since it was cracked and the piston was wore down half way
94CutlassSLCoupe
those clips are called tinnerman clips, and yes, the proper way is using sidecutters. wd-40 or any lubricating agent on rotors, hubs, or especially lug nuts is not a good idea. provided there was any rotor left and the calipers weren't leaking, that isn't bad. since i work in brakes i see a lot of shit though
Crazy K
whats that clip for? hold rotors to studs... useless and annoying. There used on the assembly line so the rotors don't fall off the hub. tonys got the answer! nice. I did a ciera which lost a brake pad and was using the piston as well. fortunatly they didn't look in the box and took the core back. DeathScythe
wow thats bad That's about what mine look like every 10K on my 1 Gen Lumina. I have to replace the rotors everything I do brakes. No there is nothing wrong with the brakes because it has been like that with every car I own.
