ron350 Posted March 10, 2007 Report Posted March 10, 2007 Front suspension help needed. This is for my 96 Regal 4 door with 65K miles. Something is loose on the front right side maybe both sides. Driving on a smooth road every thing is fine no noise or slack turning right of left. When the car hits any small bump it there is a pop and you can tell something is loose. So far I can not find any thing loose but I have never worked on front wheel drive before. Just puled the top strut plate of and the top strut bolt is tight Ball joint boots look good no oil or grease anywhere guess it still can be bad. Remember reading about some one having a strut cartridge nut loose under the dust cover? Going to go wash some dirt off the plastic dust cover (under the spring) before trying to slide it up. Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted March 11, 2007 Report Posted March 11, 2007 Id check that strut cartridge nut. Ive had it loose and its just like it sounds. Quote
ron350 Posted March 11, 2007 Author Report Posted March 11, 2007 19Cutlass94 Thanks for the reply. The strut nut that kooks like a large washer with holes in it seams to be tight. I expected to find something loose or broken but nothing so far? Quote
Crazy K Posted March 11, 2007 Report Posted March 11, 2007 I had to add a washer to my cars because even when the nut was still tight, It was not tight against the metal internals of the big rubber bushing. this followed was due to the replacement of the strut catridges. more likely it is a ball joint or tie-rod. get under the car and inspect it! 19Cutlass94 Posted March 11, 2007 Report Posted March 11, 2007 Alot of times if you go to a shop to have the struts put in, they will leave out that shim that you need. You can turque down that nut all you want, but without that shim, the cartridge will still be loose. But like Ken said, look at what else is in the steering and see if anything is loose. Its not very likely anything will be broken. If it was, youd know it fairly quickly Quote
