HybridGP Posted June 13, 2003 Report Posted June 13, 2003 U just got another 3100 car, and this time I wanna try and add some shit to it. I know there is a csc kit for it, but its like $4000 and thats out of the question. The real ? is waht can I do to the 3100 engine, like simple mods, that will add to its giddyup. Ive searched and all I can find is 3800 mods for the GPs but I know there has to be things that can be done to the 3100 engine, since I would think all types of engines have some spots that can be improved on. ismellrealbad Posted June 13, 2003 Report Posted June 13, 2003 intake, underdrive pulley, and RSM has some extremley overpriced stuff like 62mm throttle body and ported/polished plenum. my suggestion is to go with a 3400/newer 3100upper and lower intake. maybe brian might know something about that hm, maybe a hi flow cat. cant think of anything else. unfortunatley no chip is available (or at least one thats not $200 and doesnt do anything from what i hear) edit: since u said 99, that is the newer 3100. heh i dunno what else then Quote
Robby1870 Posted June 13, 2003 Report Posted June 13, 2003 well, since its the newer 3100 theres not much outside of exhaust and cone filter. Port and polish heads and intakes, thats about it Robby Quote
HybridGP Posted June 13, 2003 Author Report Posted June 13, 2003 with a 3400/newer 3100upper and Does that mean that a 3400 is the same as my 3100. because I found several pontiac 3.4 stuff but Im not sure if thats what I need Quote

The 3400 is the new 3100, and is a pushrod engines, which is found in the grand am's and also the venture, transport, montana vans. The 3.4 out of the GP is the 3.4 DOHC. Two COMPLETELY different motors. From my knowledge NOTHING will be transferable between the two motors. Quote
phantomFE3 Posted June 13, 2003 Report Posted June 13, 2003 if you get the chip that is 200 dollars and "doesnt do anything" and you get a different intake and a highflow cat you will feel a large increase your cars engine is tuned to run with the amount of air that is taken in from the stock airbox and pushed out through the stock exhaust, if you modify those parts (such as a high-flow cat) you will see SOME increase, since the engine is tuned to run with the amount given, a highflow cat would alter the amount, so would the intake, therefor if you change the intake and dramatically change the exhaust flow you will see a difference, but the chip that "doesnt do anything" is designed to make the engine run with a higher flow of air in, and exhaust out. you will see a much larger increase if you add the chip with altered intake/exhaust as upposed to alterend intake/exhause without the chip. same goes for stock intake and stock exhaust, you wont see the change when you put the chip in. dont listen to people that dont know what they are talking about, you cant bolt a turbo charger to your exhaust as a makeshift exhaust tip and expect it to work and add lots of horsepower, just because its a turbo charger people on these forums are so smart Quote
