Pulling Drivetrain ... 1995 3100/4t60e

Hey guys,

I'm hoping someone will have some advice for me. I'm pulling my engine and trans from my Cutlass Supreme tomrrow and I seem to be at a crossroads. There seems to be insufficient room to pull everything from the top because the damn master cylinder is going to get in my way. Will it fit out the top if I wiggle it out of there with a load leveler? should I break the engine from the trans and take them out separately, or is my only option to drop the cradle and pull everything out the bottom? I REALLY don't want to drop the cradle and deal with those pucks and lifting the car up that high.

Removing the master cylinder is not an option.

I think the easiest (and its how i did mine) is to just unbolt the engine from the trans pull motor then take out trans ... not rocket science ;) but it'll work best for ya sense you don't want to pull the motor/trans togeather (dropping the craddle)

Heres the progress so far...

I pulled the motor first, then the trans.

Here's the difference between 95 and 96 3100s (as I remember):

Injector Harness

Temp sensor circuit

A/C compressor and bracket

EGR and tube

02 sensor

Upper intake

Knock sensor

ROLLER ROCKERS!

Heater tube

Throttle body

Tensioner

...And the trans:

Gear selector switch thinger

Transmission Plug

Maybe these differences should be a sticky, but better written.

Soon to be completed...

Looks like you're halfway home! From a hardware standpoint anyway.. What exactly is happening here? Did your 3100 go broken? Jw.. I must have missed something..

..I would have taken the motor out exactly like that, except I have to swap sub frames anyway, so I'll be dropping from the bottom.. I'll probably assemble everything on a pallet w/ casters then raise it into the car.. But I need to get my DOHC taken care of first!!

Yeah, my 3100 with 217k finally popped both the LIM and head gaskets. Problem is, I didn't know the head gaskets were shot until I got the LIM done UUGHH!!! Also, the trans I had was acting up for thousands of miles...making noise, slipping, holding shifts, slamming into gear, etc. so I figured what a great time for a swap. I was gonna rebuild but then I found a nice guy here and on motorswap.org with a 1996 160k 3100 and trans for sale for 200. I got that and went to town lol.

No one told me all that stuff was gonna be different on the two motors. On the plus side, I have an engine to play with in the garage for a while, and I have lots of spare parts :)

I just got in and here's what's done now...

I'm gonna rip apart my old engine to see what happened and then donate the blown transmission to my high school (H.H. Dow High hahah) for them to tear to pieces. *I graduated in 05 from the school someone just did a shooting in*

It's in. It runs. It moves forward and backward in the garage.

Only a few problems:

1. Check engine light is sporadic when idleing and runs a bit rough ... just like did before.

2. Leak around water pump and heater bypass hose thing.

3. Temp sensor needs to be soldered in. I ghetto-rigged it to see how to wire it and I got it working in 5 minutes.

4. I can't bleed the coolant.

5. Hood is outside on my lawn.
