5speedz34 Posted March 6, 2007 Report Share Posted March 6, 2007 Water Pump Replacement 3.8L Removal Procedure * Tools Required J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers * J 36660-A Torque Angle Meter Object Number: 46174 Size: SH Click here for detailed picture of above image. 1. Partially drain the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System 2. Reposition the accessory wiring junction block. 3. Loosen water pump pulley bolts. 4. Remove drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement . 5. Remove the water pump pulley bolts. 6. Remove water pump pulley. 7. Remove power steering pump mounting bolts and reposition. Remove water pump. 10. Remove the water pump gasket. 11. Clean and inspect the water pump mating surfaces. Installation Procedure Object Number: 46178 Size: SH Click here for detailed picture of above image. 1. Install the gasket and the water pump. Notice Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems. 2. Install the bolts to the water pump using the J 36660-A Tighten * Tighten the long water pump bolts to 20 N·m (15 lb ft) plus 40 degrees * Tighten the short water pump bolts to 15 N·m (11 lb ft) plus 80 degrees. Object Number: 46174 Size: SH Click here for detailed picture of above image. 3. Install the water pump pulley. Loosely install the water pump pulley bolts. 4. Install the power steering pump with mounting bolts. Refer to Power Steering Pump Replacement 5. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement 6. Tighten the water pump pulley bolts. Tighten Tighten the water pump pulley bolts to 13 N·m(115 lb in) 7. Install the accessory wiring junction block. 8. Fill the cooling system.
