Rebuilding a 96 DOHC..

I also posted on 60 degree..

Just need some pointers.. I've gotten as far as the pistons.. THe oil pan is ready ot be dropped as well..

..ANyone here pulled a DOHC apart to the bare block? What are some things I need to have in order to get the crank out for example? I want to get it torn apart but I don't want to go in too blindly..

..The reason I am tearing it apart is to ave it honed and cleaned.. Depending on how that goes will dictate what I need to get as far as pistons go..

..THe project overall si going by too slowly for my liking, but I had to move out into my own place faster than I would have liked.. THe car is also in my own garage now so no one can yell at me for having my stuff in their way..

I want to have this DOHC as fresh as possible so when I do go turbo (I'm holding off on the turbo because I want a 6 speed more.. And I wanna drive it!)

THanks guys!

sorry i dont have much to input, but im hoping to rebuild a 96 dohc soon too. the only thing ive done is taken one apart down to the block so far, no bottom end. make sure you mark all the caps as far as which cylinder. are you using the stock rods?

FOr now I intend to use stock internals (Unless the block needs to be bored to clean out any damage to the walls)..

..When I go turbo, forged rods and pistons will be part of the budget..

well to get the crank out youll need to take the timing cover off and that means taking the timing sprocket off, thats where ive been stuck for a while now, not thats its impossible obviously but you either need a special tool, or tap three of the holes and use a puller. some people said to use a three jaw puller but i dont see any way to get it in there so good luck.

i used a puller to get that crank off, but i used a three jaw puller and only put two jaws on it, and then to keep the two jaws from popping off i used one of those clamps that has the hand pump thing to hold the two jaws together pretty much, and it popped right off.

mines on a stand also but the problem i had was even getting the puller around the back even a little, the sprocket is just so close i cant get one to go behind it at all. mabey you'll have better luck though.

I let the machine shop deal with getting the timing pulley off  didn't want to bother. On a 3.1 you don't need to remove the timing pulley to remove the cover, only the crank/belt pulley needed to come off and I did that with a 3 bolt puller.
