bartonmd
OK, so I had a bushing noise... every bump, it would make a hollow thud, sometimes louder than others, so I finally broke down and purchased cradle-to-body bushings and went to install them last night... Old ones were shot, but when I got the first one out, I saw that about 80% of the area on the cradle that the bushings ride on was gone in the first corner I did (only corner I did, after seeing that), so I'm driving the Caprice until I put a new cradle in this thing... Couple questions... 1. What's a decent price for a junkyard cradle? I know a local place that just got a '93 in, and my buddy just got the transmission out of it this week, so I'm pretty sure the cradle is still there... 2. I see that the cradle is (2) stamped pieces welded together to make a boxed section, but I don't know if they hardened or otherwise heat treated it after welding... I know you're not supposed to weld on truck frames and such, but I can't help but wonder about welding new plates with mount holes in them on there... BTW, I checked with the dealer before I ordered the bushings, and my VIN isn't in the recall... Either way, he said the recall ended like 5 years ago anyway... bartonmd
Also, what years and models fit this? Like, can I get a subframe from a '96 lumina??? Thanks, Mike
GutlessSupreme
yes, subframe from a '96 lumina will work. Any 1st or 1.5 gen cradle will fit, but try and get like '91 or '92+ my STE's cradle had some rot around the rear passenger mount. I took it to a local shop that specializes in dealing with rust/frames etc... I think that part alone they were gonna charge me like $70 bucks for but I needed another spot under the sway bar bushing done too so it was like $100. I had already cleaned/coated most of the frame so it wasn't worth it to me to try and find a new one. they just welded some new steel in and even recoated that area for me. bartonmd
OK, cool! So basically, any Lumina from '92 to '99, and grand prix's up to '97 or so? Thanks, Mike

Thanks, Mike Lumina through '99 Monte Carlo '95-'99 Regal through '96 Grand Prix through '96 Cutlass Supreme through '97 Just figure the newer, probably the better because they should be in better shape rust-wise.
