Quick tire question

My Pirelli P400 tires say max PSI 40lb. I have them at 35 right now and they look kinda low. I'm going on two big highway trips, should I put them up to 40psi? I don't want a blow out. Thanks for quick responses as I leave in a few hours!

My max is 44psi, I run em at 40 cold

I've never had any issues, however there is no need to run em that high aside from performance. I can notice a huge change between 35 and 40psi... hell I can even feel when one is running a few PSI low.

Only problem with running too much psi in the tires is that youll wear out the center of the tire very quickly.

yup...and not as much give in the sidewall, so you could totally PWN your tire just by hitting a pothole!

You realise EVERY W-Body ever made calls for 30psi cold right (about 33-35 hot).

You guys are fucking idiots for running that much pressure.

Stupid people............

Uhh they don't say 30psi on the door/trunk.

At 30psi the tire just about rolls off in a hard turn. The tires also look like their almost flat.

Bullshit.

I'd bet the tire pressure placard DOES say 30psi cold.

And if you want to run 44psi or somesuch go right ahead...........but when the middle of your tire wears out faster than the shoulders, don't go bitching on here.

Sounds to me like you need a new pressure gauge BTW........

20K miles later I notice no abnormally high wear on the center tread of the tire. I like the better handling that I get at 44 PSI and am not going to complain about the better MPG. The ride is also still more than soft enough for me. Driving on the MI roads I have yet to have severe damage to one of the said tires from a pothole, and if I do, I shelled the extra 8 bucks for roadhazard repair.

I go between 35 and 40 depending on the tires and such 35 for 15" and 40 for 16"

toooooo much pressure will balloon your tires and reduce your traction by reducing your contact patch.... you will have less of a contact patch when braking!!!!!!!!
