Psych0matt
So, my girls car has a weird problem. when you start it up, right as you let off the key it seems to want to catch again, and makes the loud grinding noise like when you turn the key to start it when its already running. any ideas? Addicted To Boost
Uh it is COMPLETELY NORMAL for a loud grinding noise to be present when you try to start a car that is already running!!!

I know that, what i mean is that it makes that sound at the end of starting it. and no, ive been with her more or less for the last two and a half years, the car has been in the family, but shes only been driving it (aside from when she goes home) for the last two months or so, and this problem just started recently

Brian P
The starter gear could very well be sticking. You can narrow it down by checking if the starter solenoid is still getting juice when the key is out of "start" position, and you hear it grinding. If it's not getting power, it's not an electrical issue.

Brian P
See in the hole, there's a gear off to the right side? When you engage the starter, the gear gets shot to the left to mate up with the flexplate, to turn the engine. When you let off the starter, it contracts back. Sometimes the gear can stick instead of going back.
