PCGUY112887
In the rear I have the Addco swaybar with Energy Suspension bushings on the ends, and new hangers since I snapped the old one. Just today I was going around a left turn kinda hard (not nearly as hard as other things I do) and I heard a little "snap" over my song/with subs come from my rear left. I thought wtf and turned it down, and sure enough I hear a "clunk clunk clunk" with every bump. I turn with any power more than a granny, and I hear a clunk from that side as well. At first I thought I somehow broke a hanger again, but I pull a tire off and look and hanger is there just fine. I look at the endlink on the left, and the swaybar is pushed back into the bushing about 1/4" and the swaybar is rubbing on the strut. On the other side, the swaybar is sticking out a bit and it is not rubbing on the strut. Where the hangers actually mount (to that piece bolted to the subframe rail) the left side is fairly rusted and looks as if it may be bent to the side a bit. However the right which has little rust looks very similar. I can't find anything else broken/bent. I can't decide, did I SOMEHOW bend the mount that the hangers bolt to which is now SOMEHOW making noise, or do I have a damaged strut? Bending a mount wouldn't make a snap like I heard... The strut screams trouble at me since it's original with 117k miles, they are both covered in fluid, have ripped boots, and the shafts that actually move up and down are all rusted. However if I bounce the rear sides of the car while parked, they don't get stuck or anything, they bounce... a good bit actually. The side that has the noise makes a "gerrrr" sound if I bounce it hard enough.
J
mount? They just went on the 1996 GTP and the wheel was toed out! Get under there and check Jessica's dad explained the same sound when he was driving and it went
19Cutlass94
I deff dont think its a blown strut. Both the rear struts I took of my car where blown, and I was having no noise at all. I would deff look at the mounts like said above, as well as check all the mounts for the addco bar.
PCGUY112887
I went ahead and ordered new rear strut mounts, boots, and struts by KYB from performancecenter.com About $193 total after shipping, fairly good deal. Hopefully the mount is what is causing it. How do I get the tires aligned fairly correctly after replacing these without going to a shop to have them do it? rockfangd
im willing to bet it is a little but of both between the struts and the mounts. on my 94 they were so bad that when i went to replace my rear struts the shock absorber actually stayed down and got stuck when i tried to pull it up. Agreeing with your post change them all. The hardest part for me was that rubber block bushing that you have to put the supplied bolt through wouldnt thread into the threaded hole due to rust so i just let it loose and had to recompress them both. the results though were phenomial, now i just have to do the front strut cartridges
