god910
I know it's been done a few diff. engines, (a bunch of my Conquest friends do it) I'm getting ready to put the L67 rotating assy. in my motor and was wondering what all internal things I should do while I'm in there. I'm planning on bigger valves, know where I can get them, or do I have to adapt from a diff. app. Thanks on any tips when I rip her apart. GnatGoSplat
Won't it vibrate itself apart if you eliminate the balance shaft? This is a 90-degree V6!
NOHC_WBody
Isn't the 3.8's oil pump driven off the balance shafts as well? If it is, pitch it. you don't need things like oil pressure pushing against the bottom of the pistons, slowing them down. That's eating hp. A LOT! god910
Well you would think that with a "spare tire sized" dampener you wouldn't need a balance shaft. 8) Never had a 3.8 apart so didn't know about the oil pump. I guess I will just leave it in. I can keep HP robbing oil pressure down by just not putting oil in it. That way I can keep the pump. god910
Hate to bring this back up, but I was looking at Intense's website and they offer a roller timing set that you have to remove the balance shaft for, and they removed the balance shaft in there Turbo 3800 GP. I plan on getting the pistons from them, and I have heard bad things about different companies, what about Intense?
Robby1870
I have heard all good about INTENSE, just that they are a litlle high. Thier 1.9 rockers were featured in High-Performance Pontiac in the Winter. Robby

No those 3.8's oil pumps are driven off of the crank on the front of the motor. Yes you do want the oil splashing on the bottoms of the pistons for three reasons. 1. it lubricates the wrist pin. 2. it cools the piston. 3. it keeps the thrust sides of the pistons lubricated. You don't want the wrist pins to seize up and the pistons to melt down.
Brian P
I think he was being a wise guy, and I was laughing pretty hard
