BCM Posted February 6, 2007 Report Posted February 6, 2007 Well, nice weather today so I decided to wash my car, we have a power washer and I was using that, so I started spraying the car down, then get to the front bumper, then some of the paint starts coming off!!! So great..Now I have a big gray spot on my bumper..As if the 8 or 9 dings my car already has wasn't enough.. Maybe I should just sell it to IRONDOG, let him fix everything, then sell it back to me I've taken it through stronger power washers so that didn't really have anything to do with it. Pics: Quote
digitaloutsider Posted February 6, 2007 Report Posted February 6, 2007 Wow. I guess white wasn't the only color affected by cheap GM primer. Get used to it. Once it starts, it'll never stop. I constantly have to repair little chips all over my car. Invest in a couple of bottles of touch-up paint. You'll need it. I'm getting my car repainted this spring. Quote
BCM Posted February 6, 2007 Author Report Posted February 6, 2007 Yeah I need to get some bodywork done, and just repaint the car. But, unfortunately, I probably won't have the cash to do so for a while. Quote
black_97_ls Posted February 7, 2007 Report Posted February 7, 2007 sucks man. At least it's not an 80s GM/Chrysler/Ford or a Corsica. Quote
IRONDOG442 Posted February 7, 2007 Report Posted February 7, 2007 My Intrigue front bumper did the same thing those power washers arent very nice I also learned that they arent substitutes for a clay bar and elbow grease to remove bugs off the front of the car. Quote
ZoomZoomFan Posted February 7, 2007 Report Posted February 7, 2007 That sucks. When shit happens to your car I feel like it's happened to mine since I love your car so much. Quote
Psych0matt Posted February 7, 2007 Report Posted February 7, 2007 reason why I always do mine by hand if possible (i know thats not quite possible in this weather) Quote
3pt1lumina Posted February 7, 2007 Report Posted February 7, 2007 I won't use a power washer on any of my vehicles, or on any parts of them at all. Too risky for these old cars having water leaks and paint peeling off. If it doesn't come off with a hose, soap and water, then its either too dirty or you're doing something wrong. Sometimes it just matters on what chemicals you are using too.. That can make the biggest difference. Quote
Brian P Posted February 7, 2007 Report Posted February 7, 2007 That's a factory paintjob on that bumper? Quote
Q-Ball Posted February 7, 2007 Report Posted February 7, 2007 I'd stick to hand washing. Those no touch car washes are very powerful. I'd never go through that again. But in your case, I wouldnt use the power washer either. Quote
Psych0matt Posted February 7, 2007 Report Posted February 7, 2007 i want to find a drivethrough carwash around here that has actual brushes, cuz the no touch ones don't work as well, and since this is the truck we're talking about, Id like it to be scrubbed as much as possible Quote
IRONDOG442 Posted February 7, 2007 Report Posted February 7, 2007 That's a factory paintjob on that bumper? yeah it probably looked better though 10 years ago when the car was sold though Quote
BCM Posted February 7, 2007 Author Report Posted February 7, 2007 That's a factory paintjob on that bumper? yeah it probably looked better though 10 years ago when the car was sold though Yeah, it did Quote
1990lumina Posted February 8, 2007 Report Posted February 8, 2007 The bumper paint on my car isn't coming off at all, but the paint on the body (metal parts) is flaking off very and rapidly.. The clearcoat on my buddies 2002 Cavalier is peeling off his spoiler too lol..fucking GM haha Quote
Euro Posted February 8, 2007 Report Posted February 8, 2007 that sucks man!!! i've been thru numerous DIY power washers and no touch's without no problem. maybe it was just certain paint that did it? Quote
BCM Posted February 27, 2007 Author Report Posted February 27, 2007 I finally touched it up today, looks better now I might need to go over it again. Quote
BCM Posted February 27, 2007 Author Report Posted February 27, 2007 Now I need to do something about my headlight lenses Quote
